I play the intro riff to the Stratovarius song Holy Light a lot to kind of warm my hand up. Its a great fast riff with a cool sound to it. After the fast intro, it slows down a bit and does these arpeggios that ascend and descend then stay on the same two strings at the end while moving up the fretboard. I used to be able to play it fast and do it good. I guess I forgot how, because all the sudden today I'm struggling on how to play it. It seems like I'm just not picking it correctly and I have no idea why. I think I'm playing it the same way I always have, but I'm not sure.

So I pose the question to you NICO, have you ever forgotten not how a song goes, but how you pick it? Its a weird problem I've never had up until now and its very annoying.

Not really. I learned economy picking before alternative so my right hand allows me to play sloppy. But I forget piano fingerings all the time.

The day after I posted this I guess I remembered how I did it again and it was fine. I've never taken a lesson and taught myself alternate picking from the get-go so I know I at least did that right, but I still economy pick a lot, which I should probably cut out. I actually have a unique problem in that I try to alternate pick everything, when I can just downstroke simple slower parts.
