Alright, I'm about to begin a pretty intense project. I am going to put BI-Function HID's straight from Valeo sylvania in my Q. I need the extra space behind my headlight for the projector and igniter. Would a 2 gauge wire be suffiecient for running the battery to the trunk? What would be the best route to take beneath the car in order to keep the wire most secure. Also, is there a place where I can connect the wire I use directly to where the power wire begins, so I don't have to connect two wires together? Thanks!

Is that really worth it....would that mod depreciate or increase your car's worth....what would your insurance say about a battery being in the trunk....if your battery in the trunk started a fire, would they cover that?

If you saw the light it put out you would realize why I wanna do this! I could always put the battery somewhere else if anyone can think of a batter spot. The HID's i'm putting in are the same HID's that are being used in the new vipers. Very sharp. Anyways, it will help my weight distribution! haha

I would consider the battery being in the trunk (an enclosed space) along with the gas tank seperated by a thin sheet of plastic.

How about rearranging some underhood parts, ie. charcoal canister, resevoirs, or something of the sort.

I really don't know if I have enough 'know how' to move stuff around like that. Althought I would like to because I kinda need my trunk space for the setup I have at the moment. However that is gonna be changing so it might free up some space back there for a battery. Keeping it under the hood would be ideal, but I have no idea how to accomplish that.

I don't know...I'd have to look under my hood for more ideas. But if it were me I would NOT put my battery that close to my gas tank. I think they kind of seperated the two for a reason.

why not just get the factory HID lamps from a later q{99-2001} and keep the battery in its current location, and be able to easily service the lamps with factory parts down the road if they need it,or an accident occurs?

Bah.

Relocating the battery to the trunk is fine. First off, go with an Optima. That way you don't have to worry about venting it and all that nonsense.

Second, a collision in the rear of the car will cause far more sparking from the metal on metal contact (very rare with all the plastic in our cars) than any battery would.

Third, there's just as much danger of fire in the front of the car as the rear, as there's pressurized fuel lines all over the underhood compartment.

Fourth, Fred's car has the battery relocated, and 2 of my previous cars have had this mod. I will be moving mine in my Q as well (need space for SC plumbing).

Lastly, our cars' value is irrelevant. They're worth more to us than they are to anyone else. With resale on a Q dropping like a rock, it's of no consequence.

HID's, huh? We'll expect a thorough writeup with plenty of pics!

I agree...

It can be done sucessfully and RIGHT... or it can be done wrong and really make things a mess.....

Hopefulyl youll have it done before hte meet so I can see it... Get a friend to drive it so you can bring the F50 too! PLLZ! :)

You might just take out the back seat and see if theres any room under there..... Its possible theres an empty space ready for a battery! Takes 2 mins to undo the rear seat bottom..

The reason i didn't go with the stock 99-01 headlights was because they are crazy expensive and look like lights from DOLLAR GENERAL compared to these! I am tellin ya it will be amazing! I knew it wouldn't be too bad moving it to the trunk. Lots of people do it!

for battery relocation, i use 00 gauge [awg] wire. its very thick, and can handle all the load a car could throw at it. the conductor is .414 inches thick.

in a battery relocaton, i think 2 gauge is minimum [.292 inches]. i wouldnt use 2 gauge.

2 gauge wire is only rated for 125 amps. thats pushing it.

00 [2/0] gauge wire is rated for 225 amps.

optimally, you would want to use 1, 0, or 00 gauge wire.

hey, if your gonna do it, do it right.

you use 2 gauge wire, and the first time the batterys a little flat, the car wont want to start. not to mention when its cold outside and the starter is working to crank the engine, that thin cable is gonna get real warm. not good safety wise.
