My 07 G35 coupe got a second Infiniti battery died yesterday, the first one died when the car was only 2 months old. I got it jump started and fully charged up over night, but the next day it failed to crank. It still had 33 months warranty left, so I took it off the car and brought it to the dealership, hoping Ifor a replacement battery prorated. After waiting there 3,4 hours I was only told that I had to leave the battery on the car and get the car towed to the dealership! What BS was this? I had brought batteries to auto parts stores such as AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts to get them tested, never needed to be installed on the car! Any parts store can but you dealership specialized for the car CAN'T? I have measured the alternator output, myself, its 13.9 v at idle speed, obviously its battery itself gone bad, AutoZone said so too.

If I have had it towed to them they would prorate it BUT charge for an installation, it would be much expensive than just to get one at Walmart and I bet it will last much longer than Infiniti crappy battery.

So I walked out, leaving all those BS behind and sure will never go back to that place again even I bought my G from them. Will not even for parts.

I bet if I have had the car towed in they would have found both the alternator and starter dead, and ripped me off for 1000 bucks.

Why didn't you call AAA and have them give you a jump start and drive to the dealer?

I sure can but it's not the point. The point is why the heck the battery can't be off the car to get tested out by them? Even Autozone can do it why can't they? Isn't there a such thing called battery tester? You simply put some load to the battery and see how much its voltage drops to figure out it's good or bad.

To me it's just BS.

That is not the way a dealership service department works. You have a 10 year old vehicle and a dealer service department will determine if there is something else besides the battery causing your problem.

Why didn't you test your battery yourself using a battery hydrometer and a multimeter to check your alternator output voltage?

Weak or a dead cell will clearly show up using a simple $10 battery hydrometer to check the specific gravity of each cell.

Fully charged cells are shown below

I have been monitoring my OEM battery for more than a month noticing it remains at a half charge after testing all cells multiple times.

My local Infiniti dealer quoted me $114.00 for a brand new battery and a 1/2 labor to install it.
I have a Wednesday appointment for my next oil change and battery replacement.
I had the same dealer replace the battery on my previous 06 G35. The dealer prices are only a few dollars higher than Sears and other automotive shops.
At least when I use the dealer everything works when I leave and if I ever have a problem out of state any Infiniti dealer will cover any battery problem without any hassle.

Good luck to you at Autozone

That dealer wanted you to pay for a tow, pay for the battery, pay for installation and also pay for testing. You'd have been lucky to walk out of there for only $300 to $350 - probably more. What you may not know is that at many dealerships the "Service Advisors" are paid on commission. They have no motivation to save you money. Or, in some cases, to even be honest with you. By the way, there is nothing magic about Infiniti batteries. Any brand will work so long as its the right size and type.

A Triple A (AAA) membership costs about $120 bucks a year. They'll come to your car and test the battery for free. They will also usually have a battery on the truck to sell you and will install it for free. The battery will cost a little more than some other places but the lack of hassle is worth it. AAA will also tow your car, fix flats, bring you gas and provide other services. They are available in all 50 states and have agreements in Canada. Once a car is out of warranty I suggest you look into it.

I would also suggest you shop around for a reliable independent garage and develop a relationship with them. It'll save you a LOT of money over time.
