Have to get an exhaust badly

I've tried to wait until I get an engine swap (want to get my own place before swapping, seeing how a house is more important than a car), but my existing exhaust is starting to wear heavily (I bought it 2 years ago) and it's louder and rattles heavily (the heat shield was removed). Trying to hide it by changing my shifting & throttle style no longer helps.

In the summer when most people roll down their windows and hit on girls, I roll mine up in embarrassment

I have 2 questions that I'd like to have answers for (opinions will also be appreciated. If the questions sound stupid, sorry, because I'm guilty of being a rookie in the "tuner" field.

1. Would an exhaust specifically for an SR powered car work efficiently with my KA engine (or at least work normally) performance wise.

2. What's a recommended exhaust for a SR20DET that is both good performance wise (One that may help throughout the whole RPM range would be ideal since I hope to do some road racing of some kind (track mind you). I'd also like the exhaust to be less noisier than other aftermarket exhaust and if it must be noisy, a lower grunt would be preferred (Not a fan of the high pitched and/or fart pipes that some people have). I hope I'm not asking to much

Sorry for the long post, but I'm hoping to get this done this weekend. Thanks in advance.

Exhausts are designed for the chassis, not the engine. So, yes, you should be able to get an exhaust marketed for the SR20 and be fine.

There are a lot of decent exhausts out there, but the only one I've had any real success with is the BRM. BRM (brmusa.com) custom builds your exhaust, and while it's not always that cheap, you definately get what you pay for.

I have a 3" catback with a 22" resonator on my N/A KA. It has a GREAT idle sound and when you get one it, MAN does it howl. Nice deep growl. Shipped to my door - $500.

Mind you, this is on a naturally aspirated KA. With the smaller displacement and turbo you'll have in the SR, I can almost guarentee that it would work perfectly for you.

1. yes2. at least 3 if ur planning on to turbo...if moneys low then just go to a exhaust shop and get it done for 100-150 (thats what i did bc paying 400+ for exhaust was a in the banking account for me)

i agree , i just got a normal 4 inch outlet , 2 inch inlet muffler with the baffled remvoed , and then a 12 inch resonator and a 2.5 inch catback and it deff increased performance and sounds pretty nasty too , whenever i drive by houses , in 5th gear around 2500 to 3000 rpm's everyones stares , im like oo yeah Bitc**S! hahaha , but i got it all for under 150 bucks , depens on what yu want , just go for a cheap one until yu get the house done and the full motor swap cus then yu can save up a nice BRM exhaust or HKS..good luck bro

i have 3" RSR catback with hot shot headers and catco high flow cat, and it sounds nice but its way too loud for you if ur looking for something on the milder quieter side.
