Hello everyone i am new to this forum and like it so far so i thought i would stay and ask some questions. I just bought a 1993 Q45 i was really exicted untill i got it home, all of sudden the check engine light came on and the car would idle funny and shake alot, but after a few minutes went by it stoped and ran fine and the check engine light went off. I was just wondering if anybody many know what would be going on. I would really love to hear what people had to say thank you so much.

First off welcome to NICO. It's one of the best automotive communties online, and you'll find that everyone here is willing to answer any questions you might have.

As far as your question, when was the car's last tune up? I would start with that, and and new air and fuel filters. Also, before you drive the car too much, check the timing chain guides or have them checked. I don't own a Q45 but I can still emphasize the importance of having this done. It can mean the difference between a great luxo-sport sedan experience and a blown engine.

Here's the article on chain guides: zerothread?id=25201

The Last Tune Up Was About 20k Ago. This Car Has A Bad History Of Fuel Injector Problems We Thought It Might Be That. But Any Information Helps. So Thank You For The Information You Gave Us.

Definately get the injectors checked in that case...they're a weak point of the 90-93 Q45s. Try this article too, it lists common problems and things to look for: zerothread?id=68379 .

EDIT: After reading that article again myself it definately sounds like an injector problem.

Yep your likely looking at injectors. goto Q45.org and check out our section on OHMING injectors.... Youll be able to tell which ones are bad right then and there!

Whats the build date of your car (as seen on the drivers side sticker in the frame of the door)

Has it always been a WA car? What does the Infiniti Dealer Service history say? If it has not been a CA car, I would start by ohming the injectors. Then use a couple of cans of ISO-HEET (only!) in a couple of tanks and don't let the level get below ¼ full ever. If alright, then do a few BG44K treatments after installing a new fuel filter. Might check the fuel pressure too, especially if you hear a buzz constantly behind the rear seats.

If this doesn't clear it up, check the EGG and IAC valves, and the intake path from the throttle body to the injectors. Finally, check the fuel tank and fuel lines, expecially if you have to replace teh fuel pump. If you see anything at in the bottom, pull it and steam clean it and replace rubber fuel lines and blow out the rest.

No reason for injector failure on WA Tier 1 premium gasoline.

Check for loose connections, MAF, IAC and CAS can cause problems. Wouldn't hurt to clean the MAF and EGR as well. Can you get your money back?

No, it really doesn't. Just so everybody knows, this is my '93 that I just sold to finance repairs and upgrades on my '91 Q. The car has a complete service history since new, and has twice had a fuel injector replaced. At 62,237 miles the dealer replaced the #4 injector, and at 70,876 miles the dealer replaced the #7 injector. Thats it. The car currently has 132k on it and has shown me no indication of any idle or driveability problems. This is not a car with a cronic history of injector problems. The previous owner assured me he ran nothing but premium (given his income, I believe him), and I have put nothing but premium in it myself. In addition, I've run Techron fuel injector cleaners through it every 4th or 5th tank full.Granted, I have only had the car for 5 months (I bought it to drive while my '91 was down with chain guide problems), but during that time it has run flawlessly, with one exception. Here in the Northwest, we recently had uncommonly cold temps. A couple days ago the car idled a little rough for about 20 seconds when I started it up after a night when the tempurature dropped into the 20's. After that 20 seconds, it ran fine, and that's the only time I've had a problem. It's also overdue for an oil change if that makes any difference.

At 114k the fuel filter was replaced, and all 8 plugs were replaced. At 119k it passed an Oregon State emissions test. I checked the air filter recently when I had to install a headlight and it appeared to be new.

It was 9/92

There was no buzzing from anywhere. As for the history of the car, with regard to the fuel thats been put in it, it was originally sold in Thousand Oaks, CA, and was there for about 45k miles. It then went to the Portland area and was there from 45k to about 129k, at which point it came to Washington.I'm not sure what the problems are currently. As I said, I never had any indication that there was anything wrong with it. The car has run flawlessly for me. Hopefully the above listed info will help with whatever problem may be developing. Thanks everybody.

Welcome to the complexities of "Q" ownership

And to NICO of course

Have you checked the ECU to see if you are getting any codes?(Other than 55)

Here is a Factory Service Manual in PDF form.http://phatg20.net/modules.php...d=203
