So, it seems like this in theory to me....

If you run a z32 MAF, then it will work like a Hacked MAF if you run 370cc injectors? Considering it's 3 in. in diameter. Or is that proposterous, because no air is sneaking by the actual sensor...I'm still trying to figure out the Hacked maf thing...

No...the voltage curve is different.

The reason the hacked MAF works @ 3" is b/c the stock sensor retains the stock voltage curve...it just doesn't see all the air coming in, because it "thinks" the ID of the pipe is still ~2.4"...

An example:

With stock injectors and MAF...N/A setup, no boost :

At idle, an S14 MAF may read ~1 volt.At 3500 under wide open throttle, under load, it may read 3.5 volts. At redline, at WOT, it may read 4.8 volts.

With a 3" hacked MAF and 370's...under no boost:

At idle, .8 volts. At 3500 under wide open throttle, under load, it may read 2.5 volts. At redline, at WOT, it may read 3.8 volts.

It's reading less air than what's entering the engine, so it's telling the injectors to squirt less fuel...and since they're shooting too much due to the larger size, it balances out.

Now, Z32 MAF with 370s:

At idle...I dunno, .5 volt.At 3500 under wide open throttle, under load, it may read 1.5 volts. At redline, at WOT, it may read 2.8 volts.

Hope that helps...

BTW, I made those numbers up...

And it's more than just the actual #s...it a non-linear curve.

So while the Z32 MAF and 370s may work OK from 1500-3000, asfter that it may be WAY too lean. Just an example...

If you had an safc, you could tune it out though, right?

AFC has a setting for the Z32 MAF...so it's plug and play in your 240SX.

what about a hacked Z32 MAF? this should allow more than 8 psi or 250whp, right?Brian, have you tried hacking a Z32 MAF??

I guess you would have to use a huge pipe (3+ inches)...

There's no point in hacking the Z32 MAF...if you have an ECU tuned for it, it's tuned for bigger injectors as well.

And if you used it with an AFC, you can already do more than 250rwhp, and way more than 8psi.

And really, you need better timing control to do more than that power level anyway...you need something more advanced.

[ As I've said in the past, I think that a Hacked MAF is a good, cheap way to get some decent boost, but not a good solution for big power... ]

How big is the piping used for the Z32 maf?

~3" IIRC...but I've never physically measured one.
