Whatsup, been a while since I've been on here due to me selling my Ka-t s14 .
I had recently purchased an 03 6 speed touring with 90xxx miles which seemed to have no mechanical problems apon purchase. A few months down the road after dd it I recently threw the cylinder 2 misfire code , twice . At idle I feel like some one is knocking on my motor sounds like a stumble but I read somewhere that this noise is caused by somthing else ? I'm not sure but anyways I replaced the plug which looked a little black and switched the coilpack from cylinder 2 to cylinder 1 thinking It may be that since alot of people said the coil fails . Light went off and after a few days came back on . Scanned it and still coming up as cylinder 2 misfire ? Car seems to run and pull like a train non the less .
So my questions are why would it throw the code twice and what else do you guys think it may be ? And how should I attack the problem ? I'm sure this has been answered somewhere but everywhere I've read simply said plug or coil pack , but in my case that didn't seem to solve it . Any help would be greatly appreciated , btw today or tomorrow I'm going to do a compression test on that cylinder just haven't had Time to pull all the lugs out to do so .. Can I just pull one plug and the ignition fuse so it cranks but doesn't start ? I really don't have dealer cash so I'm trying to do this on my own incase someone decides to throw that answer for a solution out there . Also the light comes and goes and have been driving with it like this for about a good two months . Thanks

the light may of came back on because the error was never cleared, i would try to erase the code with a code reader or disconnecting the battery for a few mins and hope it doesn't come back on

Sorry I'm late to the party, my first guess is that the spark plug tube seal is bad on that cylinder and it's jacking up your plug which in turn is throwing the code.

If you mean the coil pack boot thing ... I had already switched it with cylinder 1 and is still throwing the code ... What do you mean exactly ? Thanks man !

No, the seals in the valve covers. Unfortunately, Nissan in its infinite wisdom has actually integrated them into the cover in a way that they aren't easily replaceable.

There are some ways you can DIY that involve a door saw, I've posted about it before if you want to search for it, but most people just replace the valve covers altogether. Last I checked they were $200 (each).

Ok looking at the DIY ... What exactly will be replacing this fix up ? What kind of problems does itncausenwhen it does leak ? Please elaborate as I will be trying this soon

I wouldn't do it unless you know it's an issue, oil in the spark plug wells and/or oil on your plugs would be your indicator.

If it is an issue I'd do both valve covers at the same time to save having to do one now and then another later - just get 'em both out of the way at the same time.

I appreciate you taking the time out to answer my post .... Ok instead of getting te repair kit I might just order 2 new valve covers instead just to make sure .... And yes the uh was oily after 2 weeks of replacement .... What is exactly going on whe. The cover gets oil like that on the plug ?

oil on the plug and coil pack increases resistance and can cause it to either not fire or fire to the side of the spark plug tube instead of the plug itself

Ok so I checked plugs they look and seem to be fine , did a compression test and cylinders are reading around 155 . I had stated that I switched out my coil pack and plug earlier so that's not the problem and apparently the valve cover isn't the problem either since I had no type of oil on my plug ? Yesterday my cel went back on for a few hours after some driving around but then was off after parking the car for like 4 hours after starting it back up Again. What else could it be or how can I address this ?

I've got no clue. Not being able to physically see the car might have something to do with that. My best suggestion at this point is to start running through some of the troubleshooting procedures in the FSM keeping in mind the error code(s) you had from the last time the CEL popped.

Couldn't agree more myself . And I will do that 100%.... The only other thing I can think of after addressing my
Valve cover
Spark plug
Coil pack
Compression

The only thing left is to replace the cylinder 2 injector and possible leak down test .... As a friend told me to try so I will report back with some info after trying this . I will be ordering an injector next week .

Quick question when removing my plenum to exchange injectors , what gaskets should be replaced ? And which can or usually get reused ? Thanks !

Replace them. I can't imagine they you could reuse them, and even if you could you'll feel better having done it since you'll know when it was done...and that it was done correctly. :yesnod
