Have 1987 Nissan Maxima. runs for a few seconds, then dies. Won't stay running

I have a 87 Nissan Maxima that starts right up and runs for a few seconds, than dies. When I give it gas it still just dies.Will not stay running no matter what. To tell you what I have done.... There is gas in the car. I made sure of that. I put fresh 93 octane in it. I changed the fuel filter. The fuel pump is humming up to pressure when I turn the ignition on, The plugs and wires are fine, It does not need to be timed. I timed it when it was running fine, and the few seconds that it does run, it runs pretty smooth. Can anybody help me with this. It is driving me nuts. Hope to hear back soon. Thanks John

I would clean your MAF. It should help considering you checked everything else other than that.
