The custom one the shop wants to do will run me about $700.... cash I don't have nor want to spend... I was going to go with JGS IC piping and an intercooler but they dont make them anymore.

So for my S14 JGS kit I thought I would order a SSAutochrome S14/S15 FMIC set on ebay. They run around $200-$250 + $50 shipping...

What do you guys think?

They are decent quality. How much HP you lookuign for. anythign under 300 should be fine. Only issue is there couplers. So just make sure your local autozone/napa has some in case of an emergency. When I do my next project I'm going with their FMIC. That is the only thing that I will let sit in my car.

I heard good things about it. I was thinking getting one myself. I know a guy who is selling big intercooler and piping for sr20 (minor mod to fit ka-t) for around 220 - 250 shipped. Check http://www.ka-t.org too. http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14256

IMHO for those goals you don't need Godzilla's intercooler, I don't know what sized turbo you are running but that's just going to induce a bunch of lag you don't need.

The unit from IAP measures 27" wide X 6" tall X 2.5" deep and they rate it to 550hp. An intercooler the size you posted is going to be inefficient as well because 50% of it will be hidden by your bumper cover.

think about it like blowing into a straw, and blowing into a garden hose. the garden hose is bigger right? but it has more volumetric capacity and can reduce your turbo's efficiency as it has to work that much harder to fill a larger volume of space to the same pressure.

Match your parts better to your goals and you will be alot happier with the end product and have more money for the parts you can't afford to skimp on (i.e. fuel tuning etc...)

my SOHC pignose bumper is filled pretty well by the 27" long IAP unit, I think I have a picture around here somewhere... I may have to load it when I get home.

what about this one?

That's a pretty small intercooler.

Ok I give up. that intercooler is a quarter of an inch thicker and just as long and tall as the IAP unit rated to 550hp...

Bigger does not always mean better. good luck with your future endeavors I mean that sincerely as I will stay out of your threads in the future.

I got your point bigger isnt better. I decided to just have the shop do the custom piping with a small intercooler (something that at least fills up the bumper gap, maybe 27x6x2.75). The deciding factor was that with all these kits they are all made for SR anyhow, the intercoolers are truely too big, I also want to minimize cutting the support, and that I want to do this once correctly and be done with it :D

I be sure to send you pics

Thanks

but wont Stainless Steel piping add extra weight? Second, this thing is "HUGE" wouldnt it give you lag if your still running stock turbo, i think so just see what you guys think and also The piping sounds very heavy!!!

The main thign when searching for IC is the thickness of it. More surface area of the fins to cool the air... My IAP fits perfectly in my car excpet for being off-centered lol, My friend has identical size except for thickness from johnny racer and it looks like the ac condensor since I painted it black.

I think you can see the one in my sig and it is a 3inch thick core in a 3inch inlet and outlet and all of my pipes are 3inch. I also have a good size turbo and my turbo spools up real quick around 3500 and im at full boost 10 pounds.

I"m not using any but I had one of those ssautochrome ss pipes and they are very very thin and light I would say almost like aluminum.

lol not like my steel 3" u bends. I did all my pipes my self. The cold side only has one coupler and the rest is welded. The other side has like a 3 couplers. Im going to redo the hot side. When i get some more of these $

No, the core on the one you posted is only 19 inches. The 27 inch number includes the endtanks. Whereas I believe the IAP one is a 27 inch core. Big difference.

I would rather go a little larger than I wanted than to get something that small. Thes ebay intercoolers don't have very great cores when you compare then to a Sparco or something similar.
