hate to ask(aiv for smog check)

i know there are hundres of smog test threads and thats just to many to go through.I know what thew aiv does and all that but my car failed the test today soley because of the aiv and because i didnt have the stock air box I read the removal thread and it says the aiv is closed loop during idle so would i have to hook all of the aiv stuff back up or just put it on there and make it look like its working?

the california computer is unique. it doesnt go into closed loop during idle. the ecu monitors the o2 sensor and acts on the information so the aiv should not matter as much in california. the aiv definitely helped me pass but I think most cars can pass without it. in fact, it may not help at all in california.
