On my s13, my hatch lid won't pop open when I push the hatch release lever. Same thing happens when I manually open it with my key. I turn the key, no unlocking sound, no pop whatsoever. I have to lift the hatch to open. It unlocks, but doesn't move.

Is this a problem with the trunk lock striker (bottom protion of lock) or with the hatch part of the lock?

Do you think this is something I can fix myself (i.e. repair/replace parts)?

the hatch does not lift open by itself you need to lift it up and depending on how old the supports are you may have to lift it as much as 3/4 of the way before it will support it self. if it is just a matter of getting it to release from the striker since it wont allow you to pull it up after you pulled the release lever on the floor. just lube the latch mechinism with some rust penetrant.

mine just doesn't unlock everytime, i have to pull that thing like 10 times sometimes, get out, yank on it, then pull the lever again. You don't have a problem :)

same problem here. try this

remove the interior pieces until you can see the trunk latch mechanism, unbolt it, and move it down as far as you can. mine only moved about 1cm, but it helped a bit. i can here it unlock now with a click, before there was nothing. it doesnt completely solve the problem, but it helped.

also you can try to check the rubber pieces on the corner of the trunk. put something there, so it raises the trunk a bit when i pull the lever.

same issue here... Mine unlocks w/the lever, however, the weight of the hatch closes it again. The only way to get it working is using the key, or using a foot to lift the lever, strectching as much as I can, and using my right arm to lift the hatch. haven't really looked into it...but i'm guessing it's an easy fix.

Had the same trouble with the hood. However, after installing my electric fan, the intake tubing sits like an inch higher now, so problem fixed. The thing pops like a tight bra on some 40 double d's.

Right, that make's sense. Gives the hatch more room to move up. I'll try that.

I said to adjust the striker mounted to the body the latch clamps down on. You are reffering to the lever located on the floor next to your seat.

I have the same problem. Its time to get a new hatch my friend. Mine is rusted right where the hinge is. Now the problem is..... finding a sweet hatch with no spoiler... ( and matches your paint )!!!!

adjust the lock for the hatch. My hatch had the problem of not popping open, I just moved the lock down a little bit and poof! it works. You can adjust it by loosening the 2 or 4 (I forget) 10mm bolts that hold the lock in place. Move the lock down and retighten. Test, if it works then good leave it. If not, adjust again until it's good for you.
