I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. My hatch is squeeking, and it has been getting worse. It does it when I go over bumps mostly, and sometimes when the body torques in a turn.

The R50 is a 2001 5spd 4wd. The only modification to the truck are the 30x10.5 BFG AT's, which I doubt would cause this problem. The tires are for snow when I take trips to Michigan, and the car has not been offroad. I found a recall on the hatch, but I looked at my VIN and I am fairly sure mine is not in the year span. Mine was sold in Feb or March of 2000 (bought it used last Oct.). I bought it with 16700mi and have 42000mi on it now.

I was going to suggest the recall but you covered that. the production date can be found on the sticker in your drivers door to compare to the campaign. other then that I would say look at your latch see if it has severe scar marks on it indicating it might be out of adjustment. the striker mounted on the floor is what your going to look at and it is adjustable.

My QX4 also had a squeaking hatch. It was an easy fix, though.

Wipe down all of the weather stripping and the metal from the frame where the weather stripping actually makes contact (paying special attention to the 2 little black rubber nubs at the bottom of the hatch). Once the surfaces are clean, spray the silicone onto both the weather stripping and the metal portion of the hatch. Mine hasn't made a peep since. Hope this helps.
