Repacing rusted hatch by fiznat
Remove the black plastic interior panels on the right (passenger) interior of the central pilar. This will expose where the harness is connected. See second image above.
There are three differents connections on the end of the harness wire coming from the hatch. The harness runs accross the roof of the car from the hatch and down the central pilar down to aboutarm height when sitting in the rear seat.
Be careful taking of the plastic panels of as it is possible to break the locator clips.
On the driver side, the connector thers is in the ceiling of the car and the connector is in behind the grey fabric. Two connectors this time. On is a ground which is bolted to the metal frame of the car and is simply unscrewed with a socket wrench.
The other wire is a male/female banana type connector. The female part from the rear hatch about 1 1/2" long is taped to a clip that is connected to the frame of the car. Cut the tape and out is comes.
I did this swap and scavenged the old wiper motor off the old hatch, just in case my new one ever fails.
