i figured out where the clip is for the windshield wiper/brake light, but i can't figure out how to get the defroster wires off without cutting them. I have the chiltons manual, it doesn't help. Thanks though

Push one black clip holding each side of the defroster.

The last one is a brown cylinder looking connectors (driver side on the hatch). Push its tab or unsolder connecting to the metal tab on the window. Don't over heat the metal tab or the whole thing falls apart.

I am sure you have looked here

Repacing rusted hatch by fiznat

Remove the black plastic interior panels on the right (passenger) interior of the central pilar. This will expose where the harness is connected. See second image above.

There are three differents connections on the end of the harness wire coming from the hatch. The harness runs accross the roof of the car from the hatch and down the central pilar down to aboutarm height when sitting in the rear seat.

Be careful taking of the plastic panels of as it is possible to break the locator clips.

On the driver side, the connector thers is in the ceiling of the car and the connector is in behind the grey fabric. Two connectors this time. On is a ground which is bolted to the metal frame of the car and is simply unscrewed with a socket wrench.

The other wire is a male/female banana type connector. The female part from the rear hatch about 1 1/2" long is taped to a clip that is connected to the frame of the car. Cut the tape and out is comes.

I did this swap and scavenged the old wiper motor off the old hatch, just in case my new one ever fails.

cheers and good luck... :D
