Who here would buy the sedan or the hatch if both were available at the time you bought your V? (lets say for the sake of fairness, they both had all available features..abs..conv pakg...cvt...etc)

well sorry guys i hit enter before i should have, this poll was suppose to have the SL sedan and hatch, and then the S sedan and hatch option. sorry again

Even if they had the sedan when I bought mine, I would have bought the hatchback. The reason I bought the hatchback is for the VERSAtility and practicality. You can put boxes and other larger objects that couldn't fit in a sedan.

I agree. I bought the hatch because of the extra room in the back. If it had my choice between a hatch and a sedan, I would alway pick the hatch simply because of all the extra room you get to pile things high if need be.

That would be a tough one. The hatchback is a lot better looking, but the sedan offers the benefit of a lockable trunk that's separate from the cabin.

I'd probably still choose the hatchback.

good point, i like that also, better security, especially if you are able to lock the folding seats with a key.

I think the sedan just looks like another generic small car. The hatchback looks very Euro (a true brother of the Renault Clio). The extra space is much more practical. I love having a little rain cover when loading groceries or grabbing luggage.

The advantage to the sedan would be lighter weight, possibly slightly better mileage, lower price, lower center of gravity and stiffer chassis. The weight distribution might be a little worse however.

I agree. The sedan looks like every other sedan on the road. At least the hatch has some distinctive styling. As for the separate trunk, I havent checked the features on the Versa sedan but on many sedans the trunk is accessable via a fold down split rear seat. Kind of defeats the purpose of a separate lockable trunk.

More often than not, the release for this folding seat is inside the trunk itself.

I think that depends on the year and company of car. I've only driven one car where that was the case.. a rental Malibu.

I've seen more cases where they're in the trunk than cases where the release is on the seat in the cabin. Come to think of it, the only RECENT example I've seen of an in-cabin release was on an older Kia Spectra.

On my 02 Audi the rear seat would lay down I think it was 60/40, it was nice because you could lock the folding seat with the ignition key. keeping the trunk completely secure.

That works well if they make the lock mechanism out of metal. I had three different XT's, one the lock mechanism failed and would cause the seat to fold down from its own weight every time you stopped the car, the other two failed and would not unlock at all. They were made of plastic.

I checked the specs again on the sedan. It's identical to the hatchback, except it's trunk is smaller, and there's less headroom. The only advantage I can see is smaller blind spots out hte back, and it's a few hundred dollars cheaper... and 20lbs lighter.

Exactly. And for most new cars, if the seat release is in the cabin, it has the option of being locked with the master door key (which means that the valet key won't unlock it). Unless I'm mistaken, this is the way the current Maxima works (I've only used the folding seatbacks a couple of times, so it's not too fresh in my memory) so I expect the Versa sedan is the same way.

I got mine because I wanted to have a back seat far enough away from the driver seat that my 4y/o wouldn't be kicking me in the back. I decided on the HB because of the versatility to be able to haul something bigger if I needed to, although that's usually extremely rare.

Anyone seen Office Space? I was sitting in traffic (car accident ahed of me) the other day watching some old lady walk by, and she was at least a block ahead of me before traffic finally moved.

Watch it? I lived it for the last 5 years.

Great movie and thankfully traffic hasn't ever been that bad around here.

I took my V for the recall service yesterday, and they had a sedan parked there.

The picture in COVersa's posting was about the only image I'd seen of the sedan up to then...and its obvious that they took pains to take the picture at the most complimentary angle. Seen from ground level rear three-quarter view (vs. the elevated point of view in the picture) the truck area looked grafted-on. It didn't really seem to flow with the rest of the lines of the vehicle. Too many angles, panel breaks, something.

I know a good part of this is because I'm more used to looking at a hatchback, but the photos had predisposed me to like the look.

One interesting aspect: It was a dark red color...which I don't see on the Nissan web page.

That would be the same color as COVersaSL's V... Sonoma Sunset. It is a beautiful color, I wish they offered it on the Hatch here in north america.

I'm just not a fan of fire engine red on any car except for true sports cars (i.e. Vette, Porsche, Lotus, etc.)... so Red Alert does absolutely nothing for me at all.

I took the picture and I just shot some pictures walking around the car. No pain... Just a appreciation for the finer things... like a Sanoma Sunset Sedan.

What is all this hooba joo ~~>

You need to get your glasses checked. and it's a trunk in America... not a boot or a truck

I got the sedan because I liked it better than the HB. As the years go by I now like the HB more than before but if I didn't have a Versa and was to get one now it would still be the sedan... Sedan yeah
