Hey guys, I bought this 2001 Qx4 and it has a problem with the hatch. I cannot lock/unlock it with the key fob, all the other doors function fine but there is no sound or movement from the hatch.

The cars door ajar light is also always on, im assuming this is from the hatch??

I can lock it with the key in the tumbler, and the rear defroster works/clicks just fine.

Is there a common wire that may be broken to tell the car to not to lock the door and that it would think its open? I checked the fuse labels and couldnt find anything pertaining to the hatch.

I have the back cover off the hatch but all the electrical looks in great condition.

Any help on where to start would be much appreciated.

Hey there I was just reading your other thread....

What is the status of your electrical issues?

I do not know what your level of diagnostic skill but this is not the best kind of thing to learn on. You may want to bite the bullet and seek help from a specialist.

To start you will have to pull out the boot on the rear to inspect for broken wires. It is not very common but it is the first place I would look. Also this examination does not require a meter.

Also you may very well have a damaged clock spring (from your other thread) but without some testing that is just a guess, but one I would probably make when it comes to part replacement.

Do you have a mulitmeter handy?

Clock spring is in the steering wheel - it controls horn, driver airbag, cruise control and steering wheel audio. If your horn and the other functions work, and the airbag light isn't on, your clock spring is fine. I think Steve was referring to another of the original poster's threads with the clock spring idea.

I'll check out the FSM tomorrow to see if there's anything relating to your issue - I'd do it now, but I'm beat.

Try applying battery voltage to the back door lock actuator, see EL-269. EL-254 shows the location of the actuator harness.

Ok honestly, you blow me away sometimes, like how did you find and notice that little picture?? So helpful. I appreciate your help.

The truck is STILL as the transmission shop (today is 6 days) but hopefully I will have it back by friday/saturday and try giving the actuator battery power. Hopefully its connector is easily wired for a quick test

So I finally got my truck back on the road, two transmissions later  :bs: . And the hatch is still dead, so first thing I did after getting posession was test this hatch as per your instruction.

I ran 2 wires straight from the battery +/- to the red arrow connector, which seemed to be the correct connector as it has only 2 wires, red and black. But if you look at this picture, the purple arrow connector appears to be in a more realistic location for D207 which Im supposed to be probing. but it has 3 wires, that run to the hatch reverse light. So I tested the right plug correct?

Or is the picture just decieving or is my 2001.5 Qx4 a different test/wiring?

After taking out the internal rods, it appears only these 2 bolts from underneath hold the part that I think Im supposed to change (yellow arrows in first pic)

Just trying to confirm my confusion before I freeze my butt off in the junkyard to remove a new actuator.

Time to go for a nice cruise, I missed my truck

D207 has a white/purple and a yellow/purple connector.

These manuals are screwy. They point to D207, right along the bottom of the hatch. Which you would think would be the purple arrow in my picture, but that connector doesnt have a white/purple or yellow/purple. It DOES have a purple black, but non the less I followed ur knowledge looking for a white/purple and yellow/purple

That connector is actually located in my picture, about 6" above my purple arrow. It has those 2 yellow/purple white/purple wires, and 2 thick grounds. But the connector is 4 pins in a row. Not a square 2x2 set of pins like the manual shows it as

Im curious if the manual year could be wrong ( I have a 2001.5 qx4, we are referencing from a 2001, if it matters)

I also after finding that connector put 12V/ground to the purple/white yellow/purple in both polarities and the actuator didnt function. So I may still need to replace it. I just dont get the discrepencies with what the manual says, and how my car is actually wired.
