has someone replaced a transmission in a 92 Q45 before ?

i ask this question because, a Friend and i are going to replace the transmission in my Q and i wont to know level of difficulty and any thing that might need to do to take on this project ? my Friend and i have all the tools and the 93 or the 94 FMS. i would like to know the difference between a/t chapter in the manual compared to the 92 ? if not can some one send this chapters out of a 92 FMS ? next question is what was the hardiest thing to do when removing and dropping the transmission in the Q ?

thanks

Don't drop it. A lift and a transmission jack work wonders.

Just add an after market ATF cooler and bypass the single tank on the 92. Replace rear engine seal at the same time.

Do a search in Infiniti Online Mechanic forum, where mechanical questions are asked and answered, for more information.

You want to replace the hangers, transmission mount and seals for sure when you do this.

BEFORE you do this....... Just some thoughts depending on your budget.

What transmission are you putting in? 92? Have you condidered a JDM(JSPEC) transmission? You can pick a good used(25,000 - 45,000 miles) one up for $300 - $500 shipped.

Have you considered a Valve job from IPT on the transmission you're putting in? A Valve job on the valve body will help increase pressure giving you harderd criper shifts instead having the clutch constantly slipping for comfort. Your new transmission will last longer. http://www.ipttrans.com John is a good guy who can do the job on a U.S or JDM Valve body.

Make sure your replacement transmission has the sensor wiring attached to it as mine was all cut off and caused delays if not while installing and a couple extra bucks.

Add transmission cooler. Take Your time!!! Chech your Drive Shaft!

1st gear start is all controlled by the TCU... you dont need a 93 trans, just a 93-95Q TCU!

O.k I got ya. Warranty...

Tell you what. I have the 93 FSM on Computer and the paper 92 FSM, let me compare them and get back to you tonight. I have an interview to go to shortly, so after I get back I'll check to see if there is any difference.

O.K there was alot to compare, but mostly everything is the same. The layout of the 92 FSM AT section is different from the 94 FSM on disk, but it is mostly the same info. I'll point out a few differences for you as to the task your doing. You are removing the transmission and replacing with another correct?

First the Removal and installation on your AT starts on AT 109 thru AT 111. All is the exact same except for the top of your AT 111 under Installation Drive plate runout Max allowable runout: the 92 FSM gives a 0.5mm (0.020 in) measurement where as yours refers you to the EM "cylinder Block" section.

Another difference, which you most likely won't need is on your AT 112 "major Overhaul diagram you'll see(top left where the torque converter is) two wrench symbols for Ft lbs of torque. The 92 FSM has 61 -64 (6.2 -6.5, 45 47) instead of 74 - 76 (7.5 - 7.8, 54 -56) for the top one and 44 -59 (4.5 - 6.0, 33 -43) instead of 43 - 59 ( 4.4 - 6.0, 32 - 43) for the bottom one.

All else is very much the same picture for picture, word for word.

Good luck and take your time.
