i was driving from austin to houston and about halfway smoke started coming from the gear box. it didn't smell like something burning though, i've never smelling anything like it. so now when i turn it on it goes into gear and doesnt stall out when my foot is off the clutch but doesnt move either. i have a new clutch disc but don't know entirely how to take down the transmission to get to the pressure plate, clutch disc and flywheel. and i dont have enough money currently to purchase a tow truck and labor. any advise???

sounds like a roasted clutch to me.

if you have run the clutch to failure its possable u are gonna have fly wheel problems as well. So u will prolly need to have it resurfaced along with replacing the clutch / throw out bearing etc etc.

Thank fully ive never had to replace the clutch on my car yet so i cant tell u how to do it but im sure if you search on here you will find multiple threads on the subject.

its most likely a dead clutch. replacing a clutch is not too hard just time consuming. There is a whole write on how to do it. Just have a friend with you because things can get heavy

You will probably see some localised flywheel bluing and discoloration from the heat of the smoked clutch. You should have it resurfaced, as this is just a good measure, and shouldn't be too expensive. The one on my old 87 HB truck had a little bluing even after the resurfacing, and it worked great. F'in bulletproof with the ZOOM stage1 clutch I got for 100 dollars.

Don't keep driving it like it is now. I don't know how much of this heat buildup a flywheel can take before it isn't good anymore.
