has anyone welded their spider gears on their open diff?

i was thinkin of gettin em welded, but has anyone done this before? how does the car drive around corners and such?

Well... when you weld together the spider gears, both tires turn at the same speed all the time, so you will have massive understeer and you'll hop around corners.

Not a daily driver thing, not bad for a drag car though.

save some money up and get a lsd. You'll be much happer.

I did this for a while...If you intend to drive the car anywhere other than down the 1/4 mile I would not recommend it.Also, when they do break, and they WILL BREAK, it's not pretty.Most of the rear end gets replaced after a trick like that.

In the long run, an LSD will do more for you and cost far less.

yah i know a lsd is my number 1 choice but i was just a thought. i've heard its not streetable but i'll just wait and get an lsd. j spec has got tomei 2 ways for $850 which ain't too shabby, i'll prolly end up gettin the tomei

dude, you're silly. There are plenty of nissan cars you can get a lsd off of that will fit your 240. And for way less than 850. My J30 cost me $200.

But the VLSD from Nissan is not nearly as effective as a good mechanical diff(clutch or helical).

Well, for what most of us do a very good (and cheap) alternative.Maybe we here could get a good explanation of the big difference between 1.5 way and 2 way diff's. I should know, but i dont.
