Has anyone ever welded on new "frame rails" or what looks like a frame but is really the hollow reinforcement boxes. They are availible from Nissan at a good price and having a noncrushed undercarrige would be cool.I was thinking i could just weld reinforcements inside the boxes before putting on car for jacking up. I might be able to weld in the convertable jack points as they can be ordered as well.

I want to do this to strengthen the chassis as age, crushed "rails",rust have weakened this part of the cars body.

Any ideas?

Do it.

Hack the old stuff out of there and weld in your new ones. They come from the factory? Thats a good sign, you cant go wrong with OEM.

Your never going to regret doing something to stop rust and stiffen up your ride.

Thats fine, but do you know if it is welded all the way or just spot welded, I cant tell on mine cause i POR15'd the piss out of it. For the record I think you can go wrong w/oem[at least for undercarrige] cant do any rear bushings because every bolt is rusted on wasy to much that they will prob just snap. Its like Nissan designed the car to rust on purpose-not a fan of disposable toys, i want to keep my baby

I dont know if I will be reffering to the same thing as you, but I am planning on running some 1/8" steel C channel on top of the existing frame rails. I am considering going with 1/4" inch, but the extra weight is kinda throwing me off. The good thing is the extra weight will be centered and on the lowest part of the car, so it may just be worth it for the added stiffness.

My rails are just getting worse, we jacked up the car for 4 jacks stands so going that high cracked the crap out of my drivers side rail. Will probably be making my own welded on reinforcements if I can't get the originals. Will need to drive 65 miles to a friends shop to use thier welder and mechanics lift though.
