I did it last summer. Took about 4 hours.. no real tricks. I took the old one off and laid it flat on the new one on my garage floor and cut excess off and poked holes for bolts under the back window. That was it. also, when adjusting for correct tightness: attach top all the way around, then put the top back a little (6-8 inches from closed) and pull snug. This made mine perfect. I was also told not to put it down for a few weeks after putting it on (might shrink or something). It think i only waited a few days and didnt have any probems. Just take your time and you should be ok.

I haven't done it yet but I am getting ready to. I bought the top and window section from a guy on ebay and it came with a complete instruction book for my 1992. I will post when I have completed.

Has anyone put on an ebay top?

Every shop I visited in my hood has told me that, although they can put on a top purchased from another store/seller, they will not warrant the top. Only the work. Which of course, makes sense. But is it really worth it? I mean, what if you have top problems (bad stiching...etc) and what will you do then? You will have to pay to get the top taken off, then probably sent to the manufacturer...etc..

For this reason, I opted to get all the work done by a single shop, and purchase the top from them too. Sorry, but for big item purchases, I like to deal with an actual face...know what I mean? Someone I can holler/threaten at if need be.

I paid 900 for my top and the work (includes tax).

The top looks great and the shop has an inhouse warranty of 2 years. I don't recall what the top was warrantied for...

Anyways,...consider getting everything done, or just the top from a reputable, local place. Not all these guys are out to just make some cash...some places, actually have knowledgeable folks...who have done this **** over and over before. So find a place that has done a top for a 240 before...and perhaps he/she could at least lend you a hand in finding the right, closest to OEM top material.

PS: yes, 900 is a bit much, but I knew the shop was a top notch place, and more importanly, actually give a **** about their customers. Also, I don't live in a year round sunny area (NJ Reprezent!) where I'm sure, places like these are plentiful.
