I'm speaking of the interior plastic trim around the automatic shifter.

Here's the part:

The number is 96941

I know some people have replaced the color of the LED's in there... Any tips on how to remove the part?

Brute force I'm guessing?

yea i have. had to take out the whole middle console to do my LED cupholders. Once you get the shifter knob off, that slides right up. pull down the metal piece under shift knob, and theres a U shaped pin, pull that out, and the shift knob pulls right out. then that should just pull right out

There is a little notch in the front of it under the cubby door that you place a small screw driver in to pry it up (use a cloth wrapped screw driver so you don't scratch or mar it up). You also have to take the shift knob off first too. Pull the chrome ring down and slide the pin out to lift the knob off.

Sweet, thanks for the info.

I've taken off the shift knob before (pain in the @$$ the first time) so hopefully this will go smoothly.

I'm assuming there's a wire harness of sorts for the LED shift indicators?

I'm actually attempting to fab up a shift boot.

I think so but I honestly don't remember. It's been a long time since I had it out to install my iPod interface box.

Sorry fro the thread jack but I've always been curious on how to take off the shift knob. Is there a hidden screw of some sort? or maybe pat my head and rub my belly while doing the Moroccan jig then attempt to take it off?

ok, on the shift knob. you know that metal piece on the bottom of it? pull that down (you may have to pull hard) and then you will see a metal U shaped pin. pull that out, towards you. and then the shift knob should slide right up.

i've taken that thing off so many times now lol
