Has anyone redone their door panels themselves?

I recently recovered my glove box door in vinyl, and it came out great. I only paid 10 dollars for 2 yards or black vynal that is very thick and shiney, looks very leather like! I am intimited to try and recover my door panels though. I know there is vinyl under the carpet on them already but it has holes in it, so I would need to redo them. When scares me is how curved the panels are in certain areas, and also that the panel is all one peice. If it were two peices that I could pull apart and wrap the material behind then screw back together I would definately try it. Does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to do it? Would it be easier with a more pliable fabric? I know some people here have done it because I have searched around alot about it, so why not share what you know. I have 3m heavy duty 90 spray adhesive and a nice heat gun, along with alot of left over vinyl haha. Any tips or ideas are appreciated, thanks.

You could take the old inserts out, buy the fabric, cut it to the shape of the old inserts, spray contact cement on both the door and the insert, then stick it on and smooth it out.

actually, i just mean the little carpet inserts where all of the controls are on the door. i took off my door panels to do it, but they are actually one peice and i cannot take the carpet part away from the rest of the panel. i am going to wrap the fabric over the panel and use a flathead screwdriver to push the excess behind the lip so it looks like it is wrapped behind. the vinyl i used on my glovebox is too thick so smooth out in the deep curves of the panel, so im going to take a page out of the sti playbook and use some thin black suede material, hoping that it will be easier to keep smooth and wrinkle free in the deep curves. what was nissan thinking? argh! ok before posting this, i did even more searching of the board, and came acrossed a post by HUSKE, who did exactly what i was thinking. here is a pic he posted: http://www.philfree.com/240doorpanel.jpg Im not exactly sure how he did it, because his post seemed kind of hard to understand. At first he said he did it with the old carpet still on the door, but later talked about tucking i behind the foam. Huske if you see this, could you post a complete writeup? Haha im too chicken to try it myself! Thanks
