Continuing with my audio project, has anyone removed and reloacted their ECU in the G50 q45?..... Im planning to stuff it behind the passenger footwell, just wondering if anyones seen the wiring, and if it could possibly be moved.

=)

Really doubt anyone has moved it ... but let me ask, are you planning on putting a speaker down there?

Godspeed, there isnt enough extra slack in the wiring harness, so youd have to rock n chop every wire..... sounds like pure DISASTER written all over it.

I think I'd buy a cheap spare ECU and use the mating connector (and another harness connector) to make an "extension cord" if you go this route. That being said, I don't think I would try it... just too many wires and too much sensitive stuff that could get damaged!

Too much possibility for doing irreversible damage.... if you wana speaker that bad, put it in the glovebox or something.

Nutso.... I was hoping there would be a little slack.

I currently have 8" kicker midbass in the doors, Im planning to run a 5 1/4" midrange in the kick panel, then finshed off by a compression horn, under the dash.....

looks like i'll have to do some more probing.

Just use some wave guides and aperiodic enclosure for the rear.

FWIW, has to be one of the worse cars to try and put a true high end system in. There's just no space up front, and the tank is in the way in the rear. Good Luck

Yeah, I'll pull off the drivers kick today, if theres too much crap in there too, I might just cram 4" mids in the door. =(

never really understood why someone would turn a Q45 into a rolling speaker... to each their own, jsut remember when you start fiddling with things like that you can potentially screw something else up....

Not really a rolling speaker, Rolling home theater? Possibly. There isnt much to screw up. Things can be done within reason, A full comprehensive system isn't all that major.

Sorry if you feel that I should have been screened.

I guess me potentially ordering up a comparison between R32 coilovers and OEM Q45 would be stupid since i could potentially screw something up. Since I searched and some people felt it could work, but no one ever did anything about it.

Dont get me wrong Larry, your Q is at least mechanically solid, all the maintenance is caught up.. I wasnt necessarily referring to you, but owners as a whole.... Dont take anything I say too seriously!!!!!! but it certainly does no good for someone when they spend THOUSANDS on stuff like speakers, and other things like that, adn then a few thousand miles later stuff starts breaking.... you certainly wish you had that money to buy that injector, transmission, or whatever......

buying those coil overs sound like a great idea....!! Id like for someone to try it before I do!!

Remember most of this stuff is my opinion and you can chose to disregard it if youd like, however thats not going to stop me from posting it

I see from your bio that you are a manager at Best Buy. Do you by chance manage the car audio sales or install departments?

Understood, it just seemed like an attack from an almighty forum god, who seems hardheaded blah blah blah. I have great respect for you, and I didnt think you would just shoot out an attack like that.

I say do what makes you happy! I'm a hifi nut and I appreciate great sound at home and in the car. I'm lucky in that my 94Qs system is all I need---it sounds excellent. Now it wont crush the neighbors nor impress the low riders, but I'm very happy.

I have a bud who won best car in the county a few years back with tube amps stuffed into his 5 series. The sound was simply astonishing and had a real image that appeared on the front of the hood!

I liked that system as much as my Qs. That one cost close to $20K, my Q cost me 3900 plus I'm putting a 1500 into to it to bring it to spec. I just saved $15K and have a better car!!!!

haha, no way dude.... I am flexible, only to a certain point though!!! Generally its about the flexibility of 5in long pine 4x4 board

When i say certain things its not to be a tool, its because ive been there and done that (on a lesser degree than most Q owners on this board that have been here as long as I have).... often times things come out different than I intend on the internet, mainly because i probably dont think through what I say as much asi should....

Dont feel bad about calling me out!!

Im with peter though, for 10 years ago, the94 Q sound system is amazingly nice.... IT really changes everything when you even have a small simple subwoofer setup... THeny ou can turn down the bass on the headunit and fine tune the bose speakers for highs and mids and then let the subwoofer take care of the lows. Thats one thing I miss about my old Q, but i should be changing that sometime before christmas!! IM also going to consider upgrading the speakers with the bose amps.

I hope my comments were taking in the spirit of "try what you want", but fitting much into the Q seems too arduous. IMHO, the difficulty between a simple upgrade and a true audiophile-like system outweighs the "enjoyable" benefit of the better system. Of course if you're in the business (I was, to an extent, 15 years ago), you gotta have a system, can't have the cobblers kids going barefoot .
