This is not an easy job and I'm talking about R&R the Exhaust Manifolds with the Engine still in the car both sides! If so let me know what other parts were removed to do this job!

You have to remove 3 nuts at the bottom just after the pre-cats.(6 total)Unplug the oxygen sensors (2).Unbolt the EGR tube from the driver-side exhaust manifold.Remove the 8 nuts from the side of the cylinder head. (16 total)

Passenger-side requires removal of the alternator & unbolting the dipstick tube.

Engine harness may get in your way, take care not to damage any wiring.

It took me a little maneuvering to get them out.

Can't help you with replacement as I mounted them before I re-installed the heads.

Biggest thing is to be patient, a can of penetrating spray , and to take your time.

Ausgezeichnet Anlasak !

I was wondering this same thing, since I bought JDM (non-cat) exhaust manifolds and am craving to put them in (in spite of supposedly no gains). It didn't look too bad laying there (see sig).

Viel danke.

When I removed E.M. here is what I had too R&R! 1) Dip Stick Tube (Which is very tight in block) 2) Removed Fuel Filter bracket to be able to move around better! 3) P. Side 02 Sensor stayed it cleared during removal process but, D.Side had to come off! 4) Eight P.S. nuts which I sprayed all exhaust nuts the day prior to removal!5) Bottom #2 Cylinder E.M. was very hard to get to! Placement and angle working around battery cables! 6) Eight D.Side nuts were removed and #1 Cylinder E.M. over top of oil filter area was at bad angle also! 7) Once you remove E.M. you have to clean matting surface of E.M. very good because there will be some old gasket stuck too head exhaust port area! 8) Removed engine ground which is on D.S. E.M. which attaches to strut wall bend tab flat to prevent from breaking off or cutting yourself! 9) Removed 3 bolts which secures Power Steering Pump Reservoir to strut tower and moved towards Air Cleaner Box!10) Removed Air Intake System also!11) EGR Tube was removed from below with 22mm wrench!12) Remove 19 exhaust bolts and nuts to mounts flanges and hangers to pull the entire exhaust system out the back of car! Sounds like a lot but, only took another 15 minutes! 13) took Steering Linkage down because P.S. E.M. was hitting P.S. Box so had too remove Tie Rod Ends and loosen 4 R&P bolts to rotate R&P down so Steering Box would be out the way! 14) Dropped S.Bar for clearance also! Used wrenches open and box and deep and shallow sockets 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" drive 8mm,10mm,12mm,14mm,17mm,22mm,24mm, anti-seize, manifold gaskets, flange gaskets, cotter pins Etc. Installing was some much easier with Exhaust Manifolds being stripped of Heat Shields, Pre-Cat materials and Asbestos which is under Heat Shields. Lost a total of 25 LBS. with stripped E.M.

Good write up !

Unfortunately the best case scenario is to leave the heat shields/insulation on, since exhaust flows much better when it's hot.
