I failed my smog by having high HC and C0 . HC was 180 max 88 I was wondering if I could lower the fuel going into the engine to lower HC with afc.

advance the timing

it has to do with your car running lean thats why you have a HC problem

Thanks for your response but my timing was @ 15 I changed it to 20 I never can get the car once I unplug the tps to idle at 650rpm. I thought if I advance the timing this would raise hc levels. Also I thought high hc levels ment unbured gas a rich condition not lean.

if you have a very lean condition, you will get a lean misfire. that will raise your HC, but also everything else. you could probably get away with it using afc, but you have to have an understanding of the other gasses and whats goin to affect each one. why dont you just try diaging the pig rich condition you seem to have? whats the other gasses?

was this test only designated smog test? if so use the cap program and the state will pay up to $500 to pass ur emission. make sure everything is stock though, they're very strict

I ckecked the timing I just don't know if I'm doing it corectly. I can't get the car to idel @ 650 moving the screw only gets it to around 900. so I don't know if timming is correct every time I go to smog it says 15 deg. I know its has to be 20 + - 2 deg. please someone help me don't have a lot of money now now I have to hide my car because it might get towed tags are 9 months late

If you can't get the idle down, and it's running lean, I'm going to guess that you have a vac leak somewhere.
