It happened to me today which was a little weird since it was the dealership. Not sure if I should use him or not.

A Nissan dealership in Elyria, OH offered. Actually one of the parts counter guys recommended me to the tech cause he worked on sr motors in his spare time. Also the Saturn dealership by my house, one of the techs told me of one of their guys that does engine work on the side. I guess it's more common than you would think.

Okay. I just started going to the dealership (or really any car shop) now. With my old car it was just oil changes and this old friend of my dad's that would fix my car. :D

Nothing wrong with side jobs, plus its usually 30-70% cheaper..!!! just make sure the guy knows what he is doing, unless you like getting screw'd by the dealer.. nothing wrong with that too =)

I try to steer clear of the dealships and do it myself. But, no, nobody has offered. I've asked some mechanics for advice before.

Common but secretive as a good way to get fired.Remember techs only get paid $20-$25 per shop hour and taxes reduce their takehome. A good one can bill 60 shop hours per week plus tips.

The going rate [except metro CA and NY] [master tech] is $40 per real hour you supply the parts and fluids...........................unfortunately their warranty is less than stellor.

Really depends on what space and tools they have at home.I know techs that are as well equipt at home [a separate garage with a lift] as most dealers. Things like tire balancing, alignments will be outsorced.

It would be nice if I knew how to do a lot of the work myself but I can't . I'd need someone to show me. The guy was kind of cute..I think.
