Has anyone made an AM HID Ballast work?

Been f-ing around with this for a while.. my ballast is bad, light shuts off after 20 seconds, have switched bulbs and ballasts on each side and checked relays, its a bad ballast.
i ordered this kit from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/361070259932?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT
and had a car electronics shop try to install it. He couldnt make it work as the factory plug that goes to the factory ballast is a different shape than the outlet on the Ebay one I bought.

dealer wants 715$ for a new ballast, and used ones on ebay are 200 bucks that may fail at any time.
anyone had any luck installing an aftermarket ballast, if so how did you make it go.

Aftermarket ballasts fail quite often, it's not unusual to have one bad right out of the box.

I prefer to run a wiring harness to battery, using relays, instead of drawing power from headlight socket. I have Japanese-spec Nissan ballasts installed on a homemade harness in my QX4.
