Has anyone installed an Oil Catch Can & Magnetic Drain Plug on their Rogue? I have tried the Search Feature on the site.

By "oil catch can" you are referring to one installed in the PCV system, correct? Depending on the PCV valve location, it can either be a very difficult or very easy install. Here is an example of a PCV catch can setup on a Pathfinder. Scroll up a few posts to see the parts required. Perhaps this will help you get an idea of what you need if you wish to install one.

As for the magnetic drain plug, I know Courtesy Parts sells one, but it's fairly expensive. If you have any dead computer hard drives lying around, you can disassemble them and put the magnets inside on the exterior of your oil filter to hold ferrous material.

Towncivilian thanks for the Links & info.
I appreciate it. How much those Magnetic Drian Plugs goes for? I have checked this manufacturer
MFactory. That's a great tip Magnet on
the Oil Filter. Where did you get the
Magnet? Have you tried to open up the
filter?

The magnetic drain plug I linked to on the Courtesy Parts website sells for $12.95 not including shipping. I don't think you can obtain one from your local Nissan dealer as it does not have a part number listed on the website - though it does have a SKU, perhaps your local parts department employee can use that to find one? I'm not sure.

The magnets came out of a computer's hard disk drive (from a dead/non-functional hard drive, of course).

A filter cut open that had magnets installed will look something like this:

I installed this particular one which I purchased over ebay.

This particular drain plug is really strong and whenever I change the plug, it instantly attaches itself to the sides of the opening. Got to get it right to screw it in.

Moreoever, I use the basic black filtermag on an amsoil oil filter. Got the oil filter for 5 bucks actually on ebay too. :dblthumb:

Casperfun thanks for the reply. Do you
catch iron filings after an oil change?

I don't know about iron. Moreover, it does not show particles per se as in metal pieces ( like you see on ads trying to sell these things) but more like this sludge like material on the tip. Here is the closest thing of a magnetic plug online that kinda describes what I see. I guess thats a good thing. Still very happy and it has never given me any leaks whatsoever.
