Has anyone installed a subwoofer in their Z?

I'm going to change out my "not Bose" factory stereo. I'm installing a JVC-HDR1 (has HD radio tuner built in). I plan on upgrading the speakers, and I want to add a subwoofer. However, I don't want to place the subwoofer in the hatch (I don't want to use up the limited space). Has anyone installed a subwoofer under the seat? Also, I found a few 6.5" subwoofers on the web (powered and not powered). I think they would fit perfectly in the rear speaker mounts. Has anyone tried one of them?

I think I'm gonna go with that set up. I found a site that sells the OEM speaker bracket and the speaker cover. What brand/model subwoofer and amp did you install and why?

I also installed a MTX 10", in the bracket behind the seat. (The bracket is already there, so don't buy another). Also installed the MTX amp under the seat. The rear speakers were junk in my opinion, so I tossed'em. There is no reason for rear "voice" speakers in a 2 seater in my opinion .

Yep...went with two 10" kickers in a custom box made to fit under the rear hatch bar... then I mounted the kicker amp and sirius sat box in the OEM factor sub area - makes great storage that vents well for amp heat and is completely out of site.

I did the hatch from tccustomz that goes behind the strut bar that where i got the best bass and clarity. they also make other custom boxes paint matched fiber glass gold ports the whole 9. Only problem i had with the factory location the clarity and bass you cant get you moneys worth. Plus its was only $250 + $55 shp with two weeks turn around or 5-7 days if in stock. plus its a Z what can you put in the trunk.

I don't think you can change out the cd player. Yuo will have to by the cd player, wireing harness, and mounting hardware.

Installed a hardwired iPod adapter (PA11-NIS from USA Spec)in my 06 350z w/ factory radio. Check out this link for the product (about $200) http://www.usaspec.com/ipod.html. It works great! Complete control of the iPod through the radio and steering wheel.

Next project is to install a sub into the factory sub location. I'll let you know how that goes!

I had a custom box built for my Z. It is approx 1.75 cu. ft. and it is ported under the amps. It holds a 12" sub. I also replaced all four 6.5" speakers, tweeters and re-wired the whole car. It was a pain but it was worth every second IMO. Im running (4) RF 6.5" speakers, RF T1 Component Tweets, 1 Farad RF cap, RF 450.4 (for the speakers and the tweeters), and a RF 325.1 (for the sub). Now I initially had a RF P2 Dual 2 ohm 12" sub but that finally gave out.. so I went with infinity (300W RMS dual 4-ohm) this time. Sounds great. Here are a couple pictures of it.(the box used to be a silver fabric but it just didnt look right in the Z so i re-did it a couple weeks ago in all black.. buch betta IMO.)(Floating Amps....) I dont know why but over the summer that panel cover on the Left amp turned an orange color, probably just a paint defect. Anyways I talked to rockford this week and they said they will replace it for free.

Power Tweeters.

I ran the power cable under the carpet, down the side of the door kick plate. If you remove the foot rest, and pull the carpet back a little, there is a hole in the fire wall with a rubber plug in it. I just poked a little hole in it, and fed the wire through, and ran it up to the battery box.

I am looking to put a sub behind my seat. You mentioned you had one installed - how does it sound? I've heard postive and negative. Are you happy with the sound? THanks.
