Adjusted their base timing for a gain of around 3-5hp?

Thanks

When I took my car in for serice last time there was a coupe dude. He says he asked for it couple of monthsbefore. I asked him how it is and he said can't feel much. They adjusted his timing by 2 degrees.

Had it done on mine when I had my modes installed by my mechanic at the dealership. I can't really tell if it achieved anything or not. All I know is that the car revs at idle at 850RPM, instead of the usual 800RPM. My mechanic said it helped with take-off acceleration.

I also can't tell if it had any effect on my gas mileage. All I can say is that my gas mileage is excellent for a V-6 of this size---can't complain. I can now hold my car up at 4000RPM while getting the type of gas mileage I used to get at 3000RPM without the mods and the synthetic oil.

Mods (JWT Pop Charger, Stillen Exhaust, Z-tube, 5/16 spacer, Mrevv2) + timing adjustment + synthetic oil + good tire pressure = Performance + good gas mileage.

Soooo... no real noticeable difference I guess. I was curious to know if it freed up some hp in the lower RPM's.

It's only $25.00.. I'm on the fence.

Can you request it done at the dealership? and does it have any effect on warranties?

I had it done on my 280Z years ago and it made a major difference.

I wasn't aware that the timing was adjustable on the VQ. Isn't it an ECU thing?

A lot of Titan/Armada guys swear by a 2 degree advance. However, many have observed a negative effect on gas mileage. How accurate this is or applicable this might be to the G35 is really just speculative.

I think it's like most Nissan's, it will reset automatically anyway...

I messed with my old alitima and never noticed anything, from what I've heard the best thing to do is get your ecu reprogrammed by nismo or have it reflashed by someone who knows your car's mods and expectations.

G-Whizz:

$25 for the timing adjustment, is too steep. My mechnic threw the 2 degrees adjustment in there for me for free, after he had installed all my mods on the same day.

Try establishing a relationship with one of the mechnics you trust, and while you are paying for one service item, ask him to throw in the timing adjustment for free. I am sure he won't have any issues with that. The real problem is establishing a long standing relationship with a trusted mechanic at the dealership, and sticking with that mechanic for the life of your car. Trust me, it helps bring down costs, a great deal. In addition, your trusted mechnic will fill you in on his experiences working on the same model model car for other customers---you get free advice and dos and don'ts.

I actually chat with my mechanic in the service bay at the dealership while he works on my car. I am always happy to pay him for his excellent work.
