might be the 4.3l V6 usually found in s10 pickups, blazers and ful size 1500 seires trucks

if it is :tisk: last i knew those only made about 190hp at the crank and kinda gutless

the 4.3 is basically a 350 V8 short block just missing 2 cylinders

might be wrong but seems like a waist of time and money

The 4.3l Vortec Chevy motors are also in Astro vans and Safari's. I believe the 1500s do have v8s if I'm not mistaken. I have an astro, ha. They actually aren't that bad either. I have a Flowmaster Super 40 on my astro and a cone filter and it's actually decently quick. I've been able to woop up on little tuners with it. I was thinking about racing my wife (me in my sohc 240 and her in the astro) and seeing if it keeps up well.

GM 4.3L V6? Into a 240? In the words of Jeremy Clarkson, I'd rather have bird flu...

I wasn't hating on GM engines in 240's I was hating on the 4.3L V6 in a 240. Thats a far cry from an LS1. Did you know the original 4.3 was EXACTLY a 350 V8 with the last two cylinders chopped off? 90 degree crank throw separation, except for the big 180 degree gap where the last two pistons would have been... That means that a cylinder fired every 90 degrees in the crankshaft's rotation, except there were two big gaps in the firing order where the the crankshaft had to turn a full 180 degrees in between power strokes. You'd imagine that it would run rather rough wouldn't you? It did, and you know what they did about that? The put in really soft engine mounts to absorb the vibrations! You can't make this stuff up, google it. Granted later on they went to the splayed crank which smoothed things out, but still... I love that old story about the beginnings of the 4.3 lol. Personally I don't know why no one's swapped a 4.6L Northstar V8 into an S chassis, that would be sick.

It's been done.

We've seen a TON of bizarre swaps - Remember, 240sx.org has been around since 1997, and before that, we were a mailing list (since '93 or so).

I'll have to look into that... Search here I come

Edit- actually would you happen to have a link to a northstar powered 240? couldn't seem to find anything. This is a swap I'm very interested in.

4.3l is a v6 tbi push rod POS! I hate any chevy motor besides the ls series. Even than Im a die hard 4cyl straight 6 japanese motor guy. I was was raised and grew up in midcoast Maine. Its nothing but redneck's and hill billies here if its not an american made car its slow and worthles...... A 4.3l came in some s10's it depends on what trim you got they either came with a 4.3l and 2.2l it also came in van's and truck's that gm made. Its a worthless motor unless it was one of the motors than came in a gmc syclone of gmc typhoon if you dont know what that is than :0 that motor was a 4.3l but turboed making 280 crank hp and those things were awd.... IMagine a early 90's (93-90 s10 or sanoma) awd making 280 crank hp stock now thats insane... Still is and they were made back in 90-93 i think but a very rare truck balls to the walls to I'll admit....

You tell me one truck with almost completely stock everything keeping up with a cobra like that.... A srt10 or lightning wont touch it.

this next ones completely stock :0

Im not a fan of domestic's but.... THat thing doesnt even skip a beat from 0-120 it kept pulling as the same pace from 60-120 as it did from 0-60 I want one haha. :werd:

Seems to me like it was done a LOOONG time back, perhaps even when we were a mailing list. I distinctly remember the car, but a search turns up nada...

I've seen Bill Strong's MR2 Northstar swap - too cool.

I seen a youtube video of an RX7 that had a 4.3 motor in it. The car sounded okay, but the kind of okay that only someone who knew and respected the motor would admit to.

Hotrod magazine built a carbureted 4.3 that made 300hp and 316lbft, here is a link showing the build: http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engi ... index.html

Damn I'd really like to see one. Actually if I'm wishing for things, I'd really like to have the skills and resources to do it myself :chuckle:

No different than any other swap.

Actually, the VH45 is the most similar engine to the Northstar, and superior in many ways - Plus, it's been done, and there's people here who can help you with it.

Actually researching the VH swap is what lead me to the Northstar. Both are all-aluminum dohc V8's, 4.5L vs 4.6L. But here in the midwest, northstars are a lot more common than VH's. There are quite a few in junkyards reasonably close by, where as I wouldn't even know where to start looking for a VH around here. Either way, I don't have a welder, lift, plasma torch, pipe bender, or a money tree, so big swaps with lots of custom work are only pipe dreams for me right now. KA-T will have to suffice
