I haven't had it before, but recently I have been getting the check engine light and engine vibrations and brought it to the mechanic. The number 3 fuel injector was bad and when replaced it was fine. Then the number 6 went out. The mechanic said it was because my engine was old. Has anyone else had problems with their fuel injectors?

you should use the search option there has been topics on this and yes the injectors are sometimes problematic in old age some are luckier then others (knock on wood)

A lot of injector issues in the J are attributed to using the wrong octane of gas for a prolonged period (resident expert Q45tech can chime in). The injectors in the J are a special design and using anything else other than octane 91 for a prolonged period is known to cause injector problems.

To avoid injector issues - I am using non-oxygeneted 92 octane. It costs slightly more than regular 92-93 octane but it does not contain any ethanol and hence almost no water in the gas.

My gas mileage has increased as well, J30 getting 19-20mpg and Q45 4.1V8 getting 20mpg in mixed city+ highway driving.

I read somewhere that having ethanol in gas is causing many of the older nissan/infinitis to have injector problems as those injectors are not tolarent to the water in the fuel due to addition of ethanol.

Experts can add more to this.

Non-O2? I haven't heard of that. I am currently trying to do all I can to get my car up to speed, it drives great, but I feel that the previous owner treated it like a red headed step child.Would you suggest I use Octane boosters? Do most Gas stations have the non-O2 gas?

Also, sorry about starting a thread without searching, I don't know this thing too well, I am still new and learning.

Thanks guys!

We've had ethanol in gas up here for a long time, I've used octane 91-94 with ethanol for over 10 years in the J, never had any injector issue, car still runs like it was when new, but then again, I always have been a strict adherent to the Infiniti maintenance schedule. I've also used a fuel injector cleaner (opinions vary widely on this) every oil change since new.

There you have it. Opinion from an original owner of a J30. I did however buy my J30 when it had 123K on it so I am just trying to prolong the life of 13 year old injectors which possibly had some abuse.

If you are looking to find non-oxygenated gas, find a collectors car owner or a website on your state for collector cars. Collector cars need non-oxygenated gas to run. Very limited number of gas stations sell these gas. Usually at the pump they have a sticker saying that the gas is for use in collector vehicle, marine engine etc. etc.

Driverdriver, what kind of injector cleaners do you use?

Premium fuels contain a drop or two more cleaning additives than midgrade [which is higher than regular] is the primary reason to buy them them octane is a bonus.

All about economics: paying 10-15 cents more above midgrade cost $30 every 3750 miles, a can of BG44k cost $15 but may not clean up as well as continuous use of cleaner gasoline.

I use both to achieve the cleanest as near new situation.

Most people don't exercise their engines by driving at high rpms long enough to heat the plugs and combustion space, intake valve stems, and piston crowns enough to burn off the excess deposits............why city commuting vs autoban style results in serious differences in driveability.

i have this issue as well on my car, i forgot which one, i've driven about 5k on it since it was diagnosed at the dealer, i'm taking it tonight to finally get it changed out i believe on 3, can't be sure which don't have the diag. in front of me...

how much does this service normally run? i've called 3 infiniti dealers, 1 the original wanted 1200 in labor alone plus the cost of the injector to do it...I was pretty bug eyed at that...so i called another they said about 1.5 hrs to do it plus parts (at current labor rates would work to about 100-125 in labor) and the other place is telling me about 150-175 in labor plus parts...i am assuming the 2 that are closer together is more 'normal' ?

What an Irony, I think my J30 has a bad fuel injector. I was driving it today, suddenly while stopping from highway cruising, the car started idling really rough. It drives ofcourse, but serious shaking and lack of power. No CEL though. I put some injector cleaner and drove it at 4K rpm for a little bit to see if there is any dirt in the injector that might be causing this.

I read about using BG 44K and see if that fixes the issue. I headed over to checkers and the guy there tells me he never heard of BG. Where do you think I can find this BG stuff.

I will ohm out the injectors tonight. I was wondering if there is a way to check if I have a bad coil pack.

Also will a bad MAF make the car idle rough? From my experience with other cars it seems to me that at least one of the cylinders is not firing properly.

BTW, can anybody please give me the park # for the injector? I was trying to find the part at everythinginfiniti.com but could not find it there.

Here's the cheapest injector I found in my quest to replace one:

$40 is about a third of the price of a new one.
