II have searched extensively though the search function here and found nothing I tried Google and nothing which lead me to believe its dead.

Yet still has anyone go it to work and how?

I type in COM port 5 and press open COM port and it does nothing, Then I go to gauges and press on and still nothing.

Make sure the consult is connected to the car port. Make sure your ignition is ON. Make sure you select the correct port. As soon as you click "Open COM Port" you should see an ECU part number in the box. If you see that you are connected and should be able to use the program.

I assume you are talking about "CalumSult" and not "Camsult" because I've never heard of Camsult?

I was told by Jason that the best adapter to use if converting from serial to USB is one with the FTDI chipset.I have a simple cable adapter and its not working. The Cablemax FTDI adapter should get here tomorrow.17.79 plus shipping.

That is odd. Using the same port you are using in the other programs? Not trying to run more than one of the programs at once are you? Make sure one of them isn't running in the background. Maybe try a reboot and don't open any other program before Calumsult so you know that's the only one running.

Hey I wanted to get Calumsult so I did some testing with Windows Vista. Well after 10 min I found out that I forgot to "Run as Administrator".

So right click the icon->select properties->go to "Compatibility"tab->Check the box in the Privilege level box that says "Run this program as administrator".

So every time you start Calumsult in Windows Vista and above you will just have to say "Yes" when ever the computer asks you.

Calumsult is cool.

Next question: How do I dump the ECU ROM?

Once you connect do NOT turn on the gauges. Click on the ROM Dump tab. The defauld ROM type, length, and current byte should be fine if you are using an 8bit 90-93 ECU. If you are using a '94 ECU you'll need to change the ROM type to OBD II (Large ROM). Save file type should be on Binary (.bin). Click the Dump ROM button. Pick a folder and give the new file it will create a name such as "Pauls ECU BIN dump". Then click OK and wait for it to finish. It may take some time but you can usually tell when it hangs as the number's will stop changing for quite some time.

Leave it to windows to make life harder. It's not the swine flu that will destroy civilization. It's Windows.

Why I use Win Server 2003 and my own custom versions of Win 2000, none of this modern crap for me even XP, Vista are near worthless too much memory and othe requirements.

Old cheap [now] laptops love Win 2000 with SP4 and all the fixes. I have 3 Compaq M700 at home and keep 2 in car.

The more I learn about alternatives, the more I consider Mac. I haven't gotten all tech geeky with the car stuff yet - that's another level of obsession that needs to wait until the other stuff is fixed with the car - but it's coming. I imagine the software isn't cheap, but what would be the best starter one to get? And when should I get something like that?
