I see Short throw shifters ranging from $50 all the way to $300.

The focus of my YouTube channel is the build on my G37S, doing it as inexpensively as possible without using "junk" parts.

Has anyone ever used a cheapo STS? I am the son of a 50 year CNC machinist. I was talking to my dad about it, and he made a good point, in this instance your paying for the quality of the parts that are assembled and how tight you want the tolerances to be, overall the design. But my goal is to be able to give the "cheapo" parts a change so that maybe others can see that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to build a car you can have fun with.

I certainly don't want junk, considering I will be road racing this car this coming summer. Anyone have any advice?

I'd steer clear.

Consider the damage done if the shift ball inside fails and drops into the turret. :)

Leave the uber-budget builds to chumps on YouTube who have someone else paying the bills. There's plenty of people willing to buy ebay crap without recommendations, and unless you're interested in dropping a trans, there's really no need to cheap out on that type of upgrade.

As an aside, I've had both - but for my SC G35 Coupe, I bought a reputable shifter (can't recall which one) and it endured TONS of track time.

Yea I thought about that. I'll skip out on the cheap shifter.

The B & M unit or Hurst (cant remember which it was) looks like a sturdy unit.
