wouldnt it be easier to just unbolt it? especially yanking the motor and transmission as one.

I guess my answer will be No.

The yoke slides into the tail of the trans. It'll slide right out. It'll also piss trans grease all over everything.

i'm guessing that you are referring to the centre carrier (the thing that holds the driveshaft from the centre)

if that is the problem, then just unbolt the 4x14mm screws that hold the drive shaft to the differential (that way you will have some flexability), lower that part of the drive shaft to clear the differential, and then remove the engine and transmission as one pice, you will need someone though to pull the driveshaft backwards while you are removing the engine (i had the exact same issue, my centre carrier bolts were jamed)

i would really suggest that you drain as much of the transmission fluid as possible before attempting this method (it was really messy under the car after the engine/transmission pull)..... and once the transmission is out of the yoke, get a 4 inch cylindrical piece that is 1 inch in diameter (i'm making the measurements on the yoke as i'm writing) and stick it right on top of the out put shaft (if you dont do it, fluid will leak from there, even if you have drained the fluid)

and finally, even if you can not unbolt anything on the drive shaft, it will still be doable, but it will take some time, and several tries while the engine is hanging on the hoist before it is out ........ good luck, keep us posted, take pics....... a lot of pics......

here is a pic showing the engine and transmission just hanging in the air on thier way out of the engine bay.....http://www.q45.org/Project%20J30tt/PICT0020.JPG.... it looks very intemidating, but it was a lot of fun actually, just take the safety precautions first, and enjoy.....

and here is a pic of the mess under the car after i removed the engine/transmission .... http://www.q45.org/Project%20J30tt/PICT0029.JPG..... note the drive shaft is just hanging there (it is attached to the car at the centre carrier)

remember what 95-j30tt said, drain the transmission fluid first and you floor will look like mine, no mess. And yes, it was a lot of fun. ( I removed the drive shaft also.)

reverse order, the only thing that you will need is time and a friend to help you out, be carefull and get everything back on as the engine and transmission are being installed, for the drive shaft, slide it back in as the engine is going in (while still on the hoist and not fully down yet), you will need to be under the car to connect the yoke to the transmission, also to watch out for clearences.... once the yoke is in, allign the exhaust pipes and then bolt the transmission on first, then the exhaust (given that the studs are in on both sides, oh and replace the seals for the exhaust since you are there before you allign the studs, they cost 10 bucks for both from a local muffler shop), then the engine mounts....

i would really suggest that you install a new detonation sensor since the engine is out..... also clean the EGR lines and valve...... and clean the Idle air control valve, as these are extremely easy while the engine is out.....

best of luck, i hope that you are having fun, please keep us posted....

the transmission is very easily replaced once the engine is out, since you are there, check the flywheel and the starter motor gear, it shouldnt take more than a days work, good luck
