I searched but all I found was a bunch of posts with several people with broken gauges and no solutions.

My fuel gauge does not work at all. The needle is as low as it can go. The low fuel light will come on when I am low, thats how I fill up. I was wondering if anyone has ever fixed this problem, If so what did you do?

Anyone have any thoughts on what the problem is?Everything in the cluster work, except fuel gauge. Are there any fuses on the back of the cluster that could cause this?

Any ideas will help?

PS, this problem is on my 1995 240. Don't be fooled by the pic in the sig.

either you got a broken wire/open circuit

or a stuck float/mebbe float itself has a hole & is not actually floating on top of the fuel

<shrugs>

or the fuel gauge itself on the cluster is broken...

(my common cents are tingling')

I dont think it has to do with the float things. It looks more like the needle/cluster is broken, but my question is what generally is needed to fix that. Is it a new cluster (boo) or a fuse/wire that I need to replace (yay)?

ok, don't as$ume things... got a multimeter? that's the only way to isolate if it's a broken wire/ bad fuel tank gauge unit/ broken gauge on da cluster...--------------------------

fuel tank gauge unit/ easiest to check w/ an ohmmeter @ the sensor plug...

u will have to remove the gauge unit itself to perform this test, so u may want to check for continuity of the wires to the instrument gauge cluster 1st...

when float bulb is @ the lowest setting (empty), the resistance reading is high (~74-85 ohms)

when it moves up towards the top (full), resistance should go down (to ~4-6 ohms)

-------------------------------------the other test/ which should B the 1st thing to check for includes removing the cluster to get to the plugs & the back of the cluster itself...

i'll post the pic up l8tr tonight/ someone else can do it... heck, mebbe it's already in the free downloadable FSM contained in my sig link or vancouver's sig link....
