turbovisions rings a bell, i have no facts to back it up with, but my gut is telling me stay away.

I did run across this the other day.http://www.skyline-imports.com/

their email doesnt work. According to their website, they can do r33 49 state legal with "other options" available for r32 and r34. The other options appears to be buying pieces of the car and putting them back together and selling it as a "kit" car. At least theyre being up front about it.

I did notice in Texas we have a "rebuilt" or "assembled" title. A lot of people that make custom hot-rods use this. I've been meaning to checking it out. If I can put a rb in a 240sx, I should be able to put a rb in a skyline chassis. If I can call it an assembled vehicle and be done, I'll probably do it. Of course, I'd still have to find a rolling chassis.

Wait so what are the kit cars?? Do they just find a junk body and put new parts on them and a motor and then youre ready to go or something?

Uh, kit cars... whoa.. .long story there.

First off it varies state to state what a kit car is. Bottom line, first it must never have been or will be a manufactured vehicle. So buying a three wrecked Corvettes and putting them together to make one nice one is not a kit-car. So importing an engine, chasis and wheels seperately to get past customs and then putting it back-together is not a kit car...

Trust me, if FD-Shell + LS1 + crap loads of custom work still = an FD then no way in hell an engine swaped skyline is a kit car. However this is one of the major tircks most of these importers use. Long story short, not many people at the DMV give a crap.

I wouldn't trust anyone not giving out a address and number to contact.

I know this is old, but I'm putting a paper together about grey-market cars, vinswaps and importing right now..

Apparently TurboVisions site is offline, they got busted for Fraud according to a few threads I've come across, no solid information about it yet though.

I remember seeing their site a while ago, if its too good to be true, guess what..

IIRC, they imporated the cars to Carribean, had them dismantled, shipped the parts to the US, and then re-asmbled the cars and giving them WI. kit-car titles. If you asked them about it on thier forms or emails, they where extremely dodgy about the questions, and if you called them, all I ever got was an answering machine. At the time I was just trying to track down a FD or Supra shell for cheap.. track use only sort of thing.

lol at turbovisions.

I know the kid in WI who brings in a couple of the turbovisions cars.

Ben Taylor is his name.

My understand is that they bring in full JDM cars to Ft. Lauderdale Fl. You can get in to the auto yard and look at the cars (and start them and drive them around in the parking lot). Then if you sign a contract to purchase the car, they ship it to the Bahamas at which point they take the car apart and then ship it back as "parts". It is then re-assembled in Florida or Georgia and possibly given a clean title... or brought to WI to be titled as "kit" car.

I know they are real because he's had a R33 skyline and a S15 silvia as well as a few other cars here in town. But, I know for a fact they are not DOT legal and they don't get proper vins or insurance stuff. So they are exactly what you called them (Grey Market).

I've been in the importing game since about 1999. I know a few things about importing cars.

Lots of people do not understand the difference between legalizing a car and registering a car. Registration is easy, legalization is not. If its registered, it doesn't mean that its legalized.

well i will tell you from firts hand what up with this guys since i frist got my car from him and then i ended up with the real comp that used to bring the cars and do all the paper work and then gave the car to turbo and then him to you.

i got my car finally a year ago but it took me 2 years of waiting and not a lot of comunications. Ben Taylor(aka turbo visions) was vero cooperative and always pic up the phone, sudenly he stop doing that and i lost comunicaton from him for almost a year(and i was paying the car loan all the time, so i was paying for a car that i didnt have) then i finally got a hold of him and it happenend because the owner of the comp that brings the cars wanted to talk to me. they explained to me what happened with the car and why they were not longer doing buss with turbovision(the reasons they gave me are not in debate here since we cant prove that they were real or not). but i personaly wont do buss with him never again reason:i trusted him and shiped him some extra parts for him to put it in my car before deloivery. fuel pump, fmic, gauges, cam gears. short shifter.and what happened the keep them and never return them to me. he even used some of this parts on other cars and now he doesnt have them . and he refuses to ship them back to me. why? i dont know he told me that hes now working by himself and its all good now but me personally after 2 years and you cant ship my parts back to the real owner , there is something wrong there.heres his myspace so you can see his face and who are you dealing with: http://www.MySpace.com/BenTaylor34

but heres my personal recomendation to you since i dont want no one to go trougth all that sh it that i had to do to get my car , dont do buss with him if you want i can get you the email of the person that will sell you the car one the car is here in the US and completely title and registered. just send me a pm and ill respond..

ps sorry for the grammar

Oh God. I had a horrible ordeal with Ben Taylor. According to the attorney I had to hire, Ben nearly went to jail for Felony Fraud - Grand Larceny. All it would have taken is for me to report him to the police and that would have been it. The only reason I didn't take it to the police at that time is because if he would have gone to jail, I wouldn't have gotten any of my money back.

Fortunately for Ben, he agreed to give me an american car that had a little value to it, which he lied about also. But not as much money as I had entrusted to him. I ended up selling that car on Ebay to get some of my money back.

There is a rumor floating around that he has also been in jail before for possession of stolen property. This guy is as dishonest and shady as they come.

As it is, I still lost no less than $4000.00. However I did recover about 11,500 of my money. My advice is do NOT trust him.

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

I have a very reliable guy if you are interested in a car. Also, there are always cars on autotrader.com.

Bottom line, he's just another poser wannabe importer.

We've seen them before, they come and go, and each one thinks he's the "real deal".

Move along, nothing to see here...

I had talked to these guys about 4 years ago about importing my RX-7 for me, they wanted like $10k and they said they could get me a FL title.

I did it on my own and spent just a fraction of a hair over $5k
