I am also looking into changing out the differential gears. Not just to a LSD, but a lower set of gears. I'll trade some of the top end that I never see for some bottom end that will be used.

Any clue where to find? I haven't searched yet, but am going to start looking. If anyone knows of a lower geared LSD diff for sale LMK.

I saw some 4:11s for the 350Z that I assume would work for a G. I think they were NISMO. I'll bet they fit.

change your overall diameter of your wheel/tire combo.

thats what I did? Now 140 mph on the speedo is really 132 mph so my gearing is about 5.8% taller.

I'm running 235/45/17's I'll probably try 245/40/17's next

I'd rather have the benefits of a limited slip, combined with lower gearing. If the car topped out at 120-130 but I gained a lot more in the bottom, I'd be glad to make the trade. It's easy to find a LSD, but no one states the gear ratio, which makes me believe that it would still be stock ratios.

Looking at the specs of the different models at infinitihelp, it looks like the 08's stepped up the gear ratio from 07. I wonder if you could swap a newer one in?

I was thinking of something more along the lines of what Bob had pointed out. A Nismo set that 4.11 would be alright. Plus I would rather have a clutch style LSD, than a VLSD. I know it would be a little louder, but it's worth the sacrifice.

Would you be sacrificing traction with the clutch style set up or is the traction control still usable?

Traction control would still be usable. This would just transfer power from wheel to wheel, at the differential, instead of the ECU telling the brakes to slow the spinning wheel.

Thanks Nate, but I already found those. I also found that same diff for $773.

What I did find out speaking to the guys at Covina Nissan is that all diffs ship without the final gear. You re use the final gear from your car. A final gear costs around $1300.

Also, the difference between running the stock final gear of 3.35 or 3.7 depending on which drivetrain you have, is also the difference between 18mpg and 6-10mpg.

I was explained that with a 4.11 gear in the G35 or 350z. that top speed would be between 80 and 100. At 75 I would be in 5th and around 5k rpm.

The LSD will make a difference, since all the torque will be transferred to the road, however it also comes with the cost of clunking, and chatter.

Maybe later down the road.

Ouch!

Not worth it IMO.

I started checking at what speed each gear redlined. So far:

1st...not sure (I think its around 35 )

2nd: 60MPH

3rd: 83MPH

These are rough estimates, but pretty close to accurate. I'm assuming 4th is in the 100-110 area, 5th probably sits around 130 and no clue with 6th. I doubt I can peg the speedo with the 19s.

Too bad man. Sounds like a lotta money for the negative that comes along with it.

Guess you gotta just go with exhaust instead!

I have an autotragic, so my gearing is even higher, I do believe. I hit the freeway on the way home, so I'll see where I get at redline.

At what RPM do you consider it redlining?

Interesting. I just checked 1st yesterday and it redlined at 40-41. Second at just around 60 and 3rd at around 83ish.

Wonder if the difference in MY between yours and mine makes a difference.

7k on my 6mt coupe (that's where my redline begins). I won't take it past there intentionally.

Mine too! 076MT Coupe. I think I have taken my first gear up to 40 miles per hour, with the mods on it.

Anyway, the beauty of the G-coupe 6MT is the fail safe or cut off from excessive revving. So, technically, you really can't destroy the car or abuse it.

When the rev limiter kicks in...??? LOL. About 7k, give or take a few clicks on the tach. Nissan is well known for their terrible calibration of the tachometer. The ECU actually is what starts the rev limiter, not the tach. So all of them redline at the same RPM, just looks different on everyone's tach.

Hope that makes sense.

With that said, I have an '06 transmission in my '03 G35 Coupe MT6. The previous owner said he chose that because it's a better transmission and has 3 synchros per gear instead of 1 synchro, plus it has a closer/shorter gear ratio. My question is would this be why my Rev-Limiter kicks in at 5,600 instead of 6,600 according to the tachometer OR do I have another issue? Cause the car runs GREAT other than that.
