Cutting to the chase...

1993 KA24DE SE coupe.

Turn the key - get one click, but nothing else.

Rock the car back and forth a few times with clutch pedal out, starts up with ZERO hesitation, as if nothing's wrong. (It might take a few tries.) Replaced starter, no improvement.

I've read about "dead spots" in the starter, but I've already replaced that once.

I've searched several different forums, and every post I've found asking about this issue kind of stops without anyone saying whether the probelm was solved, what the solution was, etc...

Has ANYBODY successfully fixed this issue?

Is it a really tiny click? If so, its a possibility that its the interlock relay. Its the little green box (IIRC) right next to the battery on the passenger's inner fender. A lot of people just take it out and straight wire it. But, you'll be able to start the car without depressing the clutch pedal. It could be that, but may not be.

If the interlock relay is clicking then power is getting to the interlock relay so the clutch interlock switch is working. Sounds like the interlock relay is faulty. Yep, the interlock relay is right next to the battery.

I will try bypassing that relay as soon as I get a chance. then I will post whther or not that solved the problem.

Has anybody out there had this issue, posted about it, and at least semi-permanently been able to solve it? I'm just trying to use the wisdom and experience of this group to bypass the whole trial and error, replace evrything one at a time process.

BTW thanks for the ideas, guys!!!

Bit of an update....

It's definitely not the relay. I had my wife try and start the car while I sttod and listened, and the clicking is coming from the starter. COuld it just be not getting enough juice to start the solenoid? The thing that makes me think that's not the case is the fact that when it does start, it doesn't lag at all....

BTW I was looking at the FSM... where exactly is the connector for connection E19 - E204? It's where the Engine room harnesses connect with a black and yellow wire going from the relay to the starter, but I couldn't find the actual connector....

There is a connector a few feet from starter if that is what you mean. Have you tried jump starting your car with another battery?

Just a thought. Clicking but not turning over normally means that it's not getting juice. Are your battery connections tight? Maybe "rocking the car" is moving your terminal wires just enough for it to get a good connection.

Like I said, just a thought.
