so its late at nite and after browsing the redline goods sticky, it made me think of my friend's g35 and how his shifter sits. I love how his shifter sits so low and i was wondering if any of you out there have done something similar to your shifter. We all know that the shifter sits fairly high in comparison to most cars out there but it doesnt really take away from the feel. Im just looking into this from an aesthetic point of view and if there was a certain shift knob that sits lower or did you have to modify the stock shifter?

disclaimer: im not following the rice path, curiosity is just getting the best of me right now.

I have a friend that cut out a section of his shifter and welded the two ends back together. it works fine. and its easy enough to do if you have the tools to cut and weld it back together.

I thought about cutting the shifter and welding it back together, but with my amateur welding skills I would probably try to bang 4th some day, break it off, and send it through the rear window.

We did it with a kid's Civic at school one day though, and it does make it look nicer.

no, he doesnt drive a 240, he did that on his first gen rx-7, but the principle is the same. If you can weld half way decent it should be no problem.

Just cut and put some JB weld on it....or weld it like you should.Probably cut a shop to do it for real cheap. They might even do it for free if your nice enough. It's a 10second job for them.

first off, the stock shift knob is a monster. i got a black anodized nismo one and it does sit lower. try this, and if you arent happy, i would reccomend the b&m short shifter. right now you can pick one up in the advertisers special forum for 179 shipped.

you can cut it and use a clamp type knob... they slide down and u tighten the top up and it squeezes on.
