In my s13, there is a distinct creaking coming from the front while I'm coming to a stop during braking. I'm not quite sure, but I think it happens when I press harder on the brakes, but it's not a squeaking sound like that of worn brakes. It sounds like its coming from the front suspension underneath the car or something. Anybody else experience this in their s13?

Thanks!

Just as you suggested, it's probably your front suspension. I occasionally get the same squeak from the passenger side front linkage over speed bumps and such. In all likelihood, you suspension is, well, as old as the car it's in. We're not talking shocks and springs. I'm talking lower control arms. If that's the case, you're probably staring down a suspension overhaul in the coming months. Burn out the old, worn out bushings and drop some nice urethane replacements. Shouldn't be too hard.

You may also want to check your vehicle's history if you don't know it. Make sure it wasn't in an major accident or anything that would destroy the intergrity of the frame. Any rust? It might just a good idea to have an overall look at the car to check for that stuff anyway.

Good luck!

Check your tension rod bushings, as well as the shocks and boots.

ya, I just had an alignment, and the guys (without asking me first) went over the suspension and supposedly "fixed" some stuff (didn't replace anything, just messed with exisisting stuff.) Now all four of my wheels creak like mad. Creaking under braking, hitting bumps, even acceleration I drown them out in loud music. If I wasn't going to get coilovers this summer and replace most of my suspension I would be pretty mad.

You should visit your suspension with a torque wrench.
