i dunno, but some aftermarket intake manufacturers (injen?)are supplying cold-air extensions so the cone filter can have cooler outside air than hot engine bay air...

so it does make sense to have an intake routed from there... gonna try it on my 89 if i'm not busy w/ anything else

As for the cold air port... if you dont mind the hole in the bumper then go for it. If you have a cold air intake already I dont see how it will net any more gains but if you are using the short ram intake you can use dryer duct to route air up by the filter. This will help net you a few more ponies.
