Well I'm in need of new seat belts for my S13 and was contemplating a set of 4 point harnesses from Meagan Racing. To me these look slightly better at about the same price as Summit and Sparco harnesses. What do you guys think?

I know SPL can get Willans harnesses but they're probably really expensive though probably less than Takata. I haven't checked prices with SPL yet.

I like the metal adjustments on the Takatas and Willans but is it really worth the differance in price?

Well...I watch a lot of World Rally Championship and some F1. I've never seen any of those guys running Megan Racing parts. I *do* however, see them using Sparco seats and harnesses.

Seriously, you can't go wrong with Sparco. BTW, how do you plan on securing this harness?

Edit: Unless you've got a roll cage, I'd suggest one of these:

Well I've been looking at Schroth (sp?) harnesses as well now. I found a lot of information over on some Stook forums. I'll see if I can get a link up later tonight.

The megan racing ones are out of the picture now. They just don't seem so hot. Esspecialy when their other products don't seem to get the best of reviews.

I'm going to use a harness bar for the time being. Eventually I'll put in a roll cage.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this thread.

i originally thought about putting a bar in, but when i asked people about their opinion they said you need a cage. and theyre right. if you roll over when you just have a harness bar, you will get crushed, because the harness holds you in your seat so rigidly...also you need to tighten the harnesses as much as you can bear because thats the only way they work the way theyre supposed to, otherwise theyre unsafe, much more so than seatbelts.

SCCA lawyers only require a cage for roadsters running with harnesses. They don't mind the coupes and hatches. BMW of Germany offers harnesses from the factory and I don't think those cars have cages from the factory. So I don't see it as being to big of deal unless I put some in the Z3.Note, however, that I do intend to install a cage in the somewhat near future no matter what because of the rigidity it adds to the chassis and the added safety.

I've almost went ahead and ordered these twice. What do you guys think? Will these bolt into the S13 hatch? Or do you think I should go to a 4 point system? http://soloracer.com/rallye3.html

i just recently got my megan racing harness in that i got off ebay for like $40 shipped or so. the quality of it is nice. i opted for this because it was exactly what i was looking for... something cheap and non-ghetto looking like most others i see on ebay. all of the main straps are plain black with no gay/fake logos, and it also features a wider red strap thats placed in the shouled area and on the lap area. there is no need for a harness bar when using this harness which is another reason why i got it. it comes with eye bolts and on the end of the harness straps they lock into the eye bolts, so i can remove the harness anytime with ease and just leave the eyebolts in their mounting positions. i put the shoulder ones on the rear decklid, and the lap belt ones on the bottom of my seat rails. it turned out perfect. this harness is exactly what i wanted. the only reason why i got it was for when i auto-x. i get flung violently when driving my baby hard and ive found a $40 solution with this megan harness. i only use this for auto-x and nothing else. im actually very pleased with the quality of megan products. i have their 3'' n1 exhaust and it is absolutely beautiful. it even sounds good too!

Well, my initial impression of the Megan harness was exactly like you said j-z better quality than the other cheap stuff. However, I've really grown to like Schroths record in safety. The 3 point system I linked from soloracer.com doesn't require a harness bar either. Meaning I won't waste my time and materials on one and can just wait for the full roll cage.

If the megan exhaust is the one in your sig then it doens't appear to leave much in the way of ground clearance. How much room is actually under there at the lowest point? It's hard to tell with the grass.

j-z, what class do you run in? How has the S14 been compared to the other cars in your class?

lol yeah youre right about the clearance with the exhaust. the pre muffler is what hangs the lowest, and thats about 4'' off the ground. almost any car dropped on its nuts with an aftermarket 3'' n1 style exhaust is gonna have clearnace issues. i havent scraped on anything at all, so im happy with it. plus, the actual build qulity of the exhaust is outstanding! all the tig welds look scrumpcious and the polished finish is so fresh and so clean.

my car runs in the G street prepared class, and it/I do(es) an awesome job at kicking arse . usually im the ONLY nissan at the whole entire event! that will change with the next one because my dad just got himself a s14 SE, and hell be running in the G stock class hopefully kicking arse like me.

Sweet. I'm almost scared about where I would be placed if I took my 240 to an autox. But it's okay since it's all for fun.

Edit: I guess I'll be ordering the Schroths today. Wish me luck.
