harness problems... instruments not working

I am having a problem with the interior instruments, lighting in the cluster is low and the a/c panel doesnt light at all. basically i was wondering if the lower harness from a newer 240 would work. there is one from an s14 in ebay right now for 1 dollar. it comes with the ecu, i figured i would use the harness and not the ECU. if anyone has a solution to this i would greatly appreciate it. also i have a 1991 240sx hatch.

also, what is the difference between the s13 and s14 ECU's, i mean pin and connector wise.

This is a shot in the dark, but does your heater/AC blower work?
