ok, somethings wrong with the search feature for this forum. Can someone just redirect me to a thread on harness bars for the vert? I'll do the rest.

Unless someone just wants to point me in the right direction - anyone you guys know of, make a harness bar of some sort? I'd imagine it would mount somewhere about a foot or two horizontally, to the right (if viewing from driver side and turn head) of the passenger side rear speaker cover.

nope never seen one, only seen bars for the hardtop cars since they actually have B pillars.

Yeah, my old bar I had in my EG mounted to the pillars...

I just imagined someone might of thought of a way to mount it somehow other than the b pillars.

I'll pull the backseats out this weekend and see what I got to work with...im gonna ditch them anyways and maybe just fabricate something by welding to the rear floor pan. I was thinking if just a upside down u shaped bar...should be pretty sturdy if I weld the sucker...

Alternatively I could just mount my race harnesses to the floor..but thats not a good idea (you can crack dat back!).

IMO, if youre gonna go to that much work just do a 4 pt cage, a harness bar would look kinda silly sticking up above the body all by itself.

And if you aren't going to go higher than the body why not utilize the wonderfully horizontal stock rear upper seatbelt locations... ?

Oh I'm sorry, I mean't if I did weld a upside-down u shaped bar, then that would mount to the floor where the rear seats were...but the height wouldnt be higher than a few inches of the floorpan.

I remember reading something...a long time ago...that even a 45% slant on the harnesses are ok...then again, I don't know too much about this area.

However, your idea is tight - that didn't even cross my mind. I'll shoot for that instead - I'll know exactly what to do I'm sure, when I actually see what I got to work with.

Jeez, I should proof read what I write. Ok, let me translate the above again:

"Oh I'm sorry, I mean't if I did weld a upside-down u shaped bar...and mounted it to the floor where the rear seats were...

Then I would make sure the bar (horizontal) wouldnt be higher than a few inches of the floorpan."

no if you do a harness bar it needs to be up high enough that your seat belts are nearly horizontal.... 2 reasons, one is that if they are lower than that, they pull down on you during a collision, and the second is in case your seat breaks (not that uncommon) then all you have keep you off the wheel is your seatbelt... if its flat its not gonna strectch much and hopefully hold you back, but if its mounted near the floor... its gonna have way more slack when the seatback breaks...

yeah, you got me on this one. I scrapped thru my old box of parts the other day and found the instructions for mounting harnesses. ideal slant is of course horizontall straight, but acceptable range is between 30 degrees and -5 degrees. I don't know where the hell I got that 45 degrees number. (someone shoot me).

Anyways, you heard it hear first folks! Hope this is helpful to others too.
