Is there a way to install a harness bar in an '06 Track model? I don't want to install a full cage, but I plan to put in seats and a harness bar that are compatible with HANS and 6-points. I'm hoping that there are aftermarket bars that will install without too much disruption of the interior trim.

Thanks for any info.

google is your friend, plenty of info on there

As a track junkie and auto-x instructor I do not recommend running harnesses or a HANS device without atleast a 4pt cageIf the car rolls and you are strapped in with harnesses and wearing a HANS but do not have a cage, the roof can collapse and crush you in the car. Running stock belts will allow you to 'move' out of the way.

Well said. I know harness bars are tempting because they're inexpensive, and harnesses look cool. A lot of people go that route. But as a fellow track rat, I also recommend not doing harnesses without a roll bar. With stock 3 pt belts, you are much more likely to survive a rollover than with a harness because with 3pt belts, you can duck if the roof collapses.

I know you said you dont want a roll cage, but I also think that is your best bet. You can get a simple 4 point cage with a harness bar for $450 from vividracing.com. Its what I am going to get before my next track day in April. It also make sense because a harness bar will cost you $300 - $400 and if you can get a roll cage with the bar for $450 then thats smart. Check it out: http://www.vividracing.com/cat....html

I was looking at the Autopower 4 pt weld in too. Can you please give us some feedback when you get it installed?

I'm not sure I agree with the suggestions to avoid a 6 point harness and stay with the OE 3-points unless a cage is installed. Nonetheless, the talk about cages caused me to look into them a bit and it seems a 4-point cage can be installed without tearing up the interior very much. So, that may be the way to go.

The 4-point cages I've seen so far aren't legal for SCCA or NASA, it seems, but they surely provide some added protection over a harness bar only. At the very least, they are no worse than a harness bar only set up.

If anyone out there has a 4 point cage installed, I'd like to hear any comments they have. Pictures of the installation would be great.

Wow, how weird, I was actually doing some research or cages and harness bars a couple of minutes ago. I want to be ready for auto-x this summer. It might be over kill to get an roll cage for auto-x but its better to be safe than sorry. I was actually going to the harness bar route rather than the cage. Reading this thread just made me change my mind instantly. Thanks you.

I would also agree that it would be a bad idea to run a harness bar with any type of harness or HANS device. It provides no roll over protection and will hold you upright during an accident. The 3pt belt that Nissan installs at the factory is designed to offer some protection on a roll over. It might not be much, but its going to be better then what happens if you're strapped in upright.

I'm having a rollbar/cage fabricated right now and will post some pictures as soon as its done. The cage is going to offer the protection of a 4pt, but will also include some side impact protection, but with minimal intrusion into the cabin area.
