Hardwire Radar Detector?

Has anyone hardwired in their radar detector? Or do I get to be the first to start cutting wires

no need to splice any wires on the car..just go to autozone or any place of such kind and ask about a gizzmo called "add-a-circuit"...i prefer to use the fuse for the cigarette lighter..also u might want to pick up a small pack of 3A fuses...place the power end of the radar into the "add-a-circuit" and ground the other one..place the cigarette lighter fuse and the 3A fuse on to the "add-a-circuit" and plug it in the place where you pulled out the fuse for the cigarette lighter..this way you dont have to cut any wires..no electrical tape..and you can transfer this whole set up if/when you decide to get rid of the armada.

you may be able to get a kit from the manufacturer, mine was like 15 bucks it is a simple kit that splices into the cigarette lighter wire. actually it just snapped over the wires to splice in.

I think you guys are missing what I am going for. The point is to not have wires anywhere visible... Tapping into the fuse would do this. Hence, if you tap into the homelink right there then you will have about 2 inches max of visible wires...

I was about to do this as I had mine hard wired in my previous car but then came across a WAY better solution. I bought:

The whole solution is so slick! No more suction cups, and no wires showing at all - it is wired into the rear view mirror power. And the RD is higher where it performs better and blends into the rear view mirror. I can't believe I didn't always have it this way. Here are a few pics from my QX....

Now did you just do this to bypass the suction cups on your windshield? Not quite understanding what this particular thing offers??

It offers a number of things. Yes it does eliminate the suction cups, but more importantly (to me) it essentially eliminates the power cable also. Yes there is a power cable involved, but it is 6 inches long and goes into the back of your powered rear view mirror - this is where the RD now gets the power from. And from where I sit, I can not see the wire at all. This is opposed to the cable coming out of the RD, going down the windshield to the crevice in the dash, across the windshield, then down into the undernearth of the dash where you will need to find a fuse or power supply to connect it to. So you no longer have a cable laying across the dash. It also keeps the RD up higher where it is said to perform better. And it integrates / blends into the rear view mirror where it is not nearly as noticeable (to cops or thieves). and the fit or the mount in general is so much better. It is a much steadier solution than the suction cups. It sits very securely in the BlendMount kit, it doesn't jiggle or bounce.

So for me it looks better, it is mounted more securely, it performs better, it eliminates the clutter of cables, and it is safer there from prying eyes. A no brainer for me.

Sorry - I should clarify. I completely understand your reasoning for using the power wire from the mirror. It was the BlendMount Kit I was asking your about. But thank you for your answer.
