I found some bolts that will fit the back of my sr at a local hardware store the other day. They are case hardened steel. Will these be strong enough for my flywheel? My sr is going to be pretty much stock if that matters.

sure you SAY your going to keep it stock... but then you get addicted to boost. AND forget about the hardware store bought flywheel bolts. then one day you at an autocross event or draging and all the sudden......BANG!!!!! the flywheel rips off the crank, cuts though the transmission housing and slices off your legs!!!!! but really i have no idea.

I am using the stock clutch right now and plan to do a clutch job before I do any further mods. I will change them when I do that. (probably next summer):) :) :)

Just make sure the bolts are grade 8 or better so they can withstand the heat.

Why go to Nissan when you can just find it at the local hardware store? : p

Its good to save money, but not all the time. Hope it works.

Would you use bolts from the hardware store to hold your engine together? It is a flywheel that might spin as fast as 9000rpm. (missed shift)

I have used bolts from the hardware store to hold some parts of my engine together and it's doing it very well. I have lots of friends that use hardware store bolts and it hasn't let them down either. Like I said if you're buying it from the hardware store just be sure to buy the best grade bolt there is.

i bet nissan buys them from the same factory as the hardwarestore.

i bought 2 bolts for my floating caliper cost 7.25 a piece, these were special bolts from what a shop told me or else i would have went to lowes an spent like a buck if that !

Whoah. FLywheel bolts are like grade 12.9. Those are probably the most important bolts on that car. How much are your legs really worth?

What the heck are these bolts made of, Gold? I pay on average $1.50 a bolt, why are you paying soooo much?

But wont you get the bolts from Nissan later? Then you wasted money at the hardware store?

I usually take the cheapest route with things that don't increase hp. But when it comes to fasteners I will use ARP for everything. I'm not saying that is what you should use. But I would be careful with anything less then OE. The object of an engine swap or mod is not to downgrade, but upgrade.

The guys are serious about your legs being torn off...I'll find the video I have of a drag race where this actually happened.

yes, a metal disc with teeth all around the egde spinning at 8-9000 rmp will cut through many things.

if you think about it, the flywheel gets quite a beating when you drop the clutch form like 3000-3500 when dragging.

Use the hardware store grrade 8s that you found,I have them in my malibu and it has a trans brake on it witth about 400 h.p.and have never had a problem in over 100 trips down the dragstrip.Just make sure to use red loctite on them.If you are really worried about them breaking find some steel dowel pins and drill a couple holes.Freak stuff is always happening around high performance cars,I once saw a guy get hit with a collector that blew off a cars header.

Dude, if hardware bolts broke when I used them for my Hotshot header, then I doubt they'd last for a flywheel. They couldn't stand the heat from my exhaust apparently, and a majority of them snapped.

you have got to be kidding!!!! not to be an *** for my second post but, if you use hardware store bolts for your flywheel you will not be able to get a consistent torque and you will bend your crank in a matter of minutes after you start it for the first time.

one of the new guys at my shop used the old flywheel bolts on a rebuild and used a friggin impact to tighten them and bent the crank as soon as it started.

go spend the money for nissan bolts and have the piece of mind that you did it right.
