i'm ordering the chrome z1 hardpipes next week and i noticed they also have a stainless steel version? i can't picture in my head the difference, would the chrome be more of a mirror finish and steel is dull ?

also my Z is red and after getting painted will be still red but darker, getting red coupers i think would be overkill, i was planning on getting the black ones, i'm not so sure i'd want my engine back to be grey, black and chrome , although maybe that would look alright on its own.. hmm.. lots of you guys have killer bays, what do you think?

You're half correct on the finish. The chrome will be mirror, and the stainless will be slightly less so. Main difference will be that stainless is more resistant to heat and stronger. And red boost couples would be a nice touch as long as the engine doesn't get painted red. It will help pull some of the color onto the engine without over doing it imo

that's a good point, maybe red couplers with the red/grey throttle cover, there was a pic of the chrome hardpipes with a chrome plenum, but i don't even want to know what it costs to chrome a plenum LOL i imagine a lot :)

edit: once all these bits are done, i have a pile of stuff to install in spring, it'll be a year before i can paint her, then another year for engine pull and turbos/pistons/injectors, etc ..

Stainless is better if you ever plan on doing Methanol. Aluminum is the best material for hardpipes.

Thanks for the info, I'll be sticking with SS hard pipes either way for meth, but I didn't know you shouldn't use aluminum with water/meth

I wouldn't worry about meth and aluminum, yes it is corrosive for the alum, but just slightly. By the time it effs up your ic Pipes your intake and tbs will also need some care...

wish z1 had pics online that represented the products :P the pics for chrome and aluminum look the same, i probably won't run meth anytime soon but maybe i'll get the steel over the chrome? i guess anything is better than the cracked air-leaking oem ones i have now..
