Harder to start in cold & / rainny days

Does anyone know why it seems to me the car seems to have a tougher time starting in cold and or rainny days (after say an overnite / extended parking)? Could it be the 'battery'? or something else?

I need to call the road assist to start mine last monday at -35c. It's hard with the push button to let it turn till it start and at -35c it need more turn to the engine to take enough speed for start up. I've never used a block heater in my life but ... mabye i will need to :-(
